Status Report on Committee of 100 Goals • Goal #1: Create awareness with business, education and community leaders of the critical need for a joint effort to improve technical education programs for advanced manufacturing, construction and trades, culinary and healthcare jobs.  Meeting with business/education coalition held on June 29, 2009  Sessions with high school career coaches planned • Goal #2: Form partnerships with community organizations to increase business involvement in curriculum development, professional development for teachers, career education for students and teachers, and student intern opportunities.  Meeting held with Homebuilders Association & Association of Builders & Contractors; Trip to Chattanooga construction academy planned for August 27, 2009.  Meeting held with Chamber of Commerce workforce staff  Meeting held with Chamber Existing Industry Council – providing input for advanced manufacturing career education, curriculum, professional development, job shadowing and student internship programs.  Meeting held with restaurant owners/managers – providing input for hospitality career education information, classroom speakers, job shadowing, student internship programs.  Meeting held with Junior Achievement staff and board leaders on expanded career education efforts for middle school students, and expanded job shadowing and classroom speaker opportunities in these four career fields • Goal #3: Bring together superintendents, technical education staff, and board members from all three K-12 school systems to develop joint goals to improve technical education programs, explore opportunities to share staff and equipment, and share best practices.  Meeting held with superintendents and technical education directors to review plan and set goals  School technical education directors attended followup meeting on construction curriculum and will attend trip to Chattanooga construction academy in August 2009  Committee of 100 offered support for professional development training in Nashville in November 2009.  Followup meetings for all three school systems planned. • Goal #4: Encourage the development of a community-wide effort to address the high school dropout problem.
