Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer Hardware/Repair. Knowing how to design,
install, configure, and troubleshoot computer networks is a highly marketable skill. We
will discuss the fundamental types of networks and the elements of client/server net-
works. This class includes understanding the basic standards of networking, the wiring
codes, network access methods and internet addressing. We will explore the functions
and interactions between protocols and sub protocols in the OSI model. This class will
also expand your knowledge on WAN topologies and their transmission methods. You
will also learn about options for accessing networks from remote locations, including
Dial-Up networking and Virtual private networks. We will explore the concept of TCP/
IP-based networking like subnetting and Network Address translation (NAT). Learn
how to design and implement your own local area network at home.

Introduction to Computer Hardware/Repair. Designed for beginning to intermediate
level in understanding computer hardware. This course includes identifying the funda-
mental principles of personal computers, and the names, purposes, and characteristics
of input devices, display devices, memory and the different ports and cables. Identify,
configure and upgrade personal computer components and learn to use diagnostics
tools and troubleshooting techniques. Perform and apply preventative maintenance
on your system. Learn to identify the fundamental principles of printers and scanners.
This class will also help you understand the aspects and importance of safety and
environmental issues.

you thought command-line would disappear in windows, Microsoft creates Windows
Powershell in Vista. Perform a high speed search in windows using command-line utili-
ties. Learn to work with command-line utilities in a real world scenario environment. Use
utilities to automate specific or repetitive task in windows. Understand the text elements
and standard usage conventions and why command-line is critical to your computer
career. Update your current utilities using the Microsoft download center. Configure the
command prompt window and utilize the command-prompt internal commands. Learn
to use batch files to automate and process a single or multiple commands. Schedule
a command to run at a specific time or day. Create and customize a command-prompt
shortcut and learn what kind of changes were made with the Vista command-line. Cre-
ate, display and modify data files and directories. Perform backups with NTbackup or
WBAdmin utilities.
