Chamber Election ’08 Endorsements Ribbon Cuttings
Pro-Business Candidates and Propositions Promoted
The Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce realizes that assisting businesses in an always
competitive environment requires pro-business leaders in government. With that
principle in mind, the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors agreed to support
Representatives Lucy Mason and Andy Tobin in District 2 for State Representative.
“Both Lucy and Andy have been a friend to the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce,”
commented Chamber President and CEO Julie Pastrick. “Our Government Affairs
department has worked closely with Lucy and Andy to push pro-business policies at
our state legislature and oppose policies promoted by other lawmakers that would
harm business.”
The Chamber Board also supported the “Protect Our Homes” initiative or Proposition Girls on the Run Executive Director Stephanie Ludwig, surrounded by

adopting a transfer tax applied to the sale of real residential or commercial property. participants, cuts the ribbon at the field by Mountain School. The non-profit
program promotes self esteem for young girls. 928.606.7798.
The Chamber Board has consistently voiced concern over policies implemented by
Arizona’s local or state governments that increase the cost of housing in Flagstaff,
making Flagstaff housing less affordable.
For those same reasons, the Chamber Board opposes Proposition 201, defined by
supporters of that initiative as “the Homeowners Bill of Rights.” A heavily union-
backed proposition, Prop 201 will increase litigation around home transactions and
require mandatory home warranties not required today. Because Prop 201 raises
home costs, firefighter unions throughout the state have joined with Chambers to
oppose this proposition.
Finally, the Chamber Board decided to oppose Proposition 200, the “Payday Lending”
proposition. The Chamber, while not opposed to payday lending businesses, felt
that Proposition 200 allowed for an industry, which should be regulated by the state
legislature, to be regulated outside those parameters. Additionally, the Chamber
Board felt that Prop 200, while making some changes to payday lending policies Ann Beck, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Coconino County,
in Arizona, may not include all the necessary changes needed for the industry to celebrates the new headquarters for the literacy group at 2223 E. 7th Ave.
