West Haven Adult High School is open to residents who are at least 16
years old, have not achieved a high school diploma, and are officially
withdrawn from high school.
New students must be evaluated in the areas of math and reading before
they can register for classes. Call 203-937-4375 to make an appointment for
the January evaluation sessions.

Adult Education Credit Diploma Program the option to earn credits online. With counselor
approval, a student can enroll in Introduction to Online Learning and Academic Courses.

This course is designed to prepare students to take the High School Equivalency exam HAV
(G.E.D.). Anyone who does not have a high school diploma, is 17 years of age, officially WEST EN
AD TION

withdrawn from school for six months, or whose high school class has graduated, is eligible ED
to take the G.E.D. exam. Students will be given a placement exam in order to determine which
academic areas need to be improved. Upon completion of the placement tests, students will
be placed in classes to help them pass state G.E.D. entrance examination standards. If a
student has mastered these prerequisites, they will be given G.E.D. practice tests. Class time
will be spent studying the five subject areas of the G.E.D.: Reading, Writing Skills, Social Studies,
Science, and Math. Upon successful completion of the practice exams, students who qualify can register for the
G.E.D. exam in the West Haven Adult Education Office. The G.E.D. exam is offered at various test sites in the state of
Connecticut. Applications for the G.E.D. exam are available at the West Haven Adult Education Office on Mondays,
Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. You must apply in person approximately one month prior to the
desired test date. Be sure to bring a photo ID along with the $13.00 exam fee.
