Kaplan, Inc. (www.kaplan.com), a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company
(NYSE: WPO), is a leading global provider of educational services offering
postsecondary education, test preparation, professional training, and K-12 services
Kaplan’s operations are organized into four segments:
Kaplan Higher Education’s U.S. operations include more than 70 campuses in 20-plus
states, as well as Kaplan University’s online offerings. Our programs prepare students
for employment in fields such as healthcare, business, legal and paralegal services,
information technology, criminal justice, and design. Kaplan offers students career-
oriented master's, bachelor's and associate's degrees, as well as certificates and
diplomas. Kaplan University’s Concord Law School offers the juris doctorate degree
online. Schools in the U.S. are separately accredited by one of several national or
regional accrediting agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
Kaplan Higher Education serves about 100,000 students, more than many of
America’s largest universities.
The Kaplan University School of Professional and Continuing Education provides
post-degree academic programs to working professionals who need to meet
educational requirements in their fields or professions. It provides licensing, exam
prep, and continuing education to businesses and individuals in the accounting,
insurance, securities, real estate, financial planning, architecture, and engineering
Kaplan is the world leader in test preparation and has served millions of students
since its founding more than 70 years ago. With a comprehensive menu of online
offerings, books and software, as well as classroom locations worldwide, Kaplan
offers preparation for more than 90 standardized tests for college and graduate
school admissions and English-language proficiency. In addition, Kaplan Test Prep
offers academic tutoring and pre-college test prep for students in their K through
12th grade years.
Kaplan Test Prep also offers programs to prepare professionals for a variety of
licensing and advanced designation exams, as well as continuing education in various
fields. Kaplan Medical prepares physicians and nurses for licensure, while Kaplan
PMBR offers full-service bar review for aspiring attorneys in 25 states and D.C., as
well as review for the multistate portion of the bar exam nationwide.
In 2010, Kaplan Test Prep provided courses to more than 651,000 students and
professionals, including over 241,000 in online courses.
Kaplan Ventures develops and grows innovative companies at the intersection of
education, technology and compliance. This division’s portfolio includes medium-
sized, high-growth businesses that offer an expanding array of specialized education
programs that complement Kaplan’s core businesses, and also includes a venture
capital investing arm.
Kaplan Ventures includes companies that offer online university solutions for
traditional higher education institutions (Kaplan Global Solutions/Americas and
Colloquy), IT certification test prep and content authoring technologies (Kaplan
Learning Technologies), and web-based compliance training (Kaplan EduNeering).
Kidum, a leading provider of English-language training and test preparation in Israel,
is also part of this unit.
Kaplan’s international programs are designed to help students achieve specific
educational goals and provide career qualifications that enable them to compete
effectively in a global marketplace. Kaplan International is comprised of two units:
Kaplan Europe and Kaplan Asia Pacific.
Based in London, Kaplan International Colleges (KIC) offers English-language and
university pathway programs for international students at over 50 locations in the
U.K., Ireland, U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. KIC programs include a wide
range of English courses for adults and younger students and an extensive portfolio
of university pathway programs delivered in partnership with top universities.
Kaplan’s other European operations include: Kaplan Financial, a leading provider of
training for accountancy and finance qualifications and higher education programs;
Dublin Business School, Ireland’s largest independent higher education and
professional training institution; Kaplan Law School, which trains solicitors and
barristers; Kaplan Hawksmere, which offers continuing professional development
courses for legal and business professionals; and Kaplan Open Learning, which offers
online degree programs in business management, financial services and criminal
justice, primarily for working adults.
Kaplan’s Asia Pacific operations include: Kaplan Professional, Australia’s largest
provider of professional education for the financial services, tax and accounting, and
real estate sectors; Kaplan Business School Australia, which offers specialized courses
in business and accounting; and Bradford College, which offers university pathway
programs and English-language courses in partnership with the University of
Adelaide. Kaplan also offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs for
students studying in Hong Kong and Singapore through affiliations with Australian,
British and U.S. institutions. In mainland China, students can take pre-university
foundation programs, as well as degree offerings from other Western universities.
Students can study for these programs either domestically or abroad.
