                        Boyer Partnership Assessment Project

Glenn R. Bucher is Special Assistant to the President at Elizabethtown College. He received a
Bachelor of Arts in economics and philosophy from Elizabethtown College, the M.Div. from
Union Theological Seminary and the Ph.D. in the sociology of religion from Boston University.
From 1999-2005 he was Executive Director of The Boyer Center at Messiah College.
Previously, he served as President of the Graduate Theological Union, Dean of Faculty at The
College of Wooster and Professor of Religious Studies at Howard University (Washington, DC).
Bucher’s teaching and scholarly interests interface contemporary religion, culture, and politics.
He has served as a consultant in higher education on organizational, funding, assessment, and
curriculum issues.

Becki Elkins Nesheim is Director of the Office of Institutional Research at Cornell College in
Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She received a B.S. from The University of Kansas, M.S. from Iowa State
University, and Ph.D. in Student Affairs Administration and Research from The University of
Iowa. She has been involved in several research projects examining the impact of various
pedagogical and administrative practices on student outcomes. Elkins Nesheim’s experience in
student affairs administration includes women’s centers, LGBT student services, residence life,
and judicial programs. Elkins Nesheim recently co-edited, with Melanie Guentzel, a New
Directions for Student Services monograph on graduate student education.

Melanie Guentzel is Director of Graduate Student Services at St. Cloud University in Minnesota
and she is a doctoral candidate in Student Affairs Administration and Research at The University
of Iowa. She has an M.S.E. in College Student Personnel from the University of Wisconsin-
LaCrosse and a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She served as
Student Services Coordinator for the Master of Social Work program at the University of St.
Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. Guentzel recently co-edited, with Elkins Nesheim, a New
Directions for Student Services monograph on graduate student education.

Angela Kellogg is an academic advisor at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, and a
doctoral candidate in Student Affairs Administration and Research at The University of Iowa.
She received her B.A. from Truman State University and her M.S.E. from the University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse. Her administrative experience includes multicultural affairs and student
activities. Kellogg served as a Bush Leadership Fellow, and her interests as a scholar and
practitioner focus on issues related to diversity and engagement in higher education.

William M. McDonald is Vice President for Student Life at Presbyterian College. He received a
B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, M.A. from Appalachian State
University, and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee. McDonald’s scholarly interests
include building campus community, assessing student perceptions of community, and
developing model programs for faculty involvement in residence halls. McDonald received the
Melvene D. Hardee Award from SACSA in 1998, and was named a Senior Scholar by ACPA in
2006.

Cynthia A. Wells is assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies and Boyer Fellow in The
Boyer Center at Messiah College (PA). She also serves as adjunct faculty in the higher
education master's program at Geneva College (PA). Wells holds a Ph.D. in higher education
from The Ohio State University, as well as a M.S. from Wright State University (OH) and a
Bachelor of Arts in psychology and religious studies from Occidental College (LA). Prior to her
service as a Boyer Fellow, she served as Vice Provost/Dean of Students at Messiah College. Her
scholarly interests include higher education ethos, faith formation, and narrative inquiry.

Elizabeth J. Whitt is a professor in the College of Education and Co-Director of the Center for
Research on Undergraduate Education (CRUE) at The University of Iowa. She received a B.A.
from Drake University, M.A. from Michigan State University, and Ph.D. in higher education
administration and sociology from Indiana University. Whitt served on the faculties at
Oklahoma State University, Iowa State University, and University of Illinois at Chicago. She
also worked in student affairs administration at Michigan State University, University of
Nebraska-Lincoln, and Doane College (Nebraska). Whitt is associate editor of the New
Directions for Student Services monograph series. In 2002, the American College Personnel
Association named her a senior scholar for her contributions to student affairs research and
practice.
