                     INDUSTRY EXPERTS JOIN CORE K12
                  IN EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS
     James Ashby, Ph.D., is new VP of Research and Assessment & Chief Psychometric Officer;
Robert (Bob) Collins becomes VP of Strategic Planning & Chief Academic Officer

Jersey City, N.J. (July 16, 2010) – CORE K12 is pleased to announce that two leading industry experts, Dr. James
Ashby and Robert (Bob) Collins, are joining its executive management team. Both men have distinguished
careers in K-12 education, including holding high level positions in county, district and school settings. At CORE
K12, they assume executive-level positions responsible for directing a variety of future strategies, research and
product development.

Dr. Ashby joined CORE K12 to lead the Research and Assessment team. Dr. Ashby has served in public
education for the past 20 years, starting as a classroom teacher. He went on to apply his doctoral studies in
psychometrics toward administrative roles, including Chief Accountability Officer for Knox County Schools,
Tennessee, and Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability for Plano Independent School District in
Texas. Dr. Ashby has dedicated his research and practice to making assessment data relevant to the decision-
making responsibilities of classroom teachers and school leaders. Working closely with public school
administrators and policymakers, he is known for identifying systemic assessment practices and policies that act
as barriers to student achievement and creating innovative uses of assessment to promote equitable educational
opportunities. Dr. Ashby holds degrees in Psychology from Northcentral University, Educational Administration
from University of North Texas, and Mathematics from Abilene Christian University.

Mr. Collins brings more than two decades of experience in the development of curricular, instructional and
assessment programs to CORE K12. He began his educational career in South Los Angeles as a classroom teacher
and recently retired as Superintendent of the Grossmont Union High School District. Prior to that assignment, he
served in a wide range of positions in the Los Angeles Unified School district, including Chief Instructional
Officer, Regional Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and
Principal. Mr. Collins is a graduate of UCLA with a Masters from Loyola Marymount University.

“We couldn’t be happier to have James Ashby and Bob Collins as part of our management team. Both are
known throughout the industry as education visionaries and held in high esteem,” says Kevin Howell, President of
CORE K12. “The experience and knowledge of these gifted individuals is extraordinary. When coupled with our
existing team of talented assessment, curriculum, and programming professionals, their contributions will make
us a stronger, more agile, and creative organization to better serve the needs of educators worldwide”.
