eric 6a~ettl President, Los Angeles City Council Councilmember 13th District 200 North Spring Street Room 470 Los Aflgeles. California 90(:)12 213473..7013 213 613 081 9 Fax w w RE: Sunset Junction Street Festival Dear Council p,resident Garcetti: Thank you again for the opportunity you have provided us to showcase the new and exciting changes that we have made to this year's Sunset Juncti'on Street Festival. We understand and recognize the tremendous privilege that Council District 13 and the City of Los Angeles has bestowed upon us over the last 28 years in which we have held our event. Therefore, we truly look forward to working with your office. the City, and the local community to ensure that we continue to enjoy the aforementioned privilege and continue to provide the City of Los Angeles with one of its most recognized and anticipated events of the year. Per your request, we have worked closely with your staff and the local community to address the four points that you requested we resolve. To that extent. weare thankful for your staffs guidance and support in helping us ensure that the Sunset Junction Festival moves forward. As mentioned, you asked that the Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance (SJNA) address four issues. which with your office and the local community have concerns. Those four points are 1) the festival boundaries/LaywOut 2) the distribution of wristbands to the local stakeholders and community 3) the distribution of wristbands to businesses and employees 4) that we meet with local businesses/community membeis and publicize our plan of action. "Ve are pleased to inform you that we have worked very hard to address those concerns. We understand that there has been some miscommunication and concerns regarding our event in the past and we are working hard to avoid any such scenarios again. Therefore, SJNA is pleased to provide in writing our plan of action. Instructions on how Free Tickets to Local Residents will be distributed 4. Instructions on Wristbands distribution to Businesses inside the Street Fair Closure for Employees As you can see from the attached documents, we have moved the festival boundaries along Sunset Blvd. back to Edgecliff Dr., where there will be influx of traffic along the corridor with a performance stage filled with great live acts (which can be viewed at www.sunseljunction.org), a beer pouring station, a 'ferris wheel, and games. We will be sure to continue'to update your office and the community regarding the placement of booths once we get an understanding of . our commitment from vendors, which has been slow this year given the circumstances. Furthermore, you will be pleased to know that SJNA has thoroughly expanded and nearly doubled our coverage area for the disbursement of wristbands to local residents. SJNA firmly believes that no employee should pay for a wristband. Therefore, we have worked with your office to come up with a plan to effectively and efficiently disburse wristbands to businesses and employees, which is also attached. Also, you will be pleased to knowthat parking alternatives are presently on our web-site, on our printed materials and as we have done in the past will mention off-site parking on radio advertisements. Also, large signs will be placed near the 101 and 5 Freeways directing people to L.A.C.C. Parking Lot. Thank you again for the opportunity to share our plan of action with your office and the local community. We look forward to building a strong and lasting relationship with the local community, businesses and residents, and to continue to provide the City of Los Angeles with a festival with which it can be proud. Of course, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or thoughts you may have. Thank you for your support. The Sunset Junction Street Festival is a wonderful opportunity to expose thousands of people to your business. This opportunity should not be missed We are aware that there is some inconvenience, but in most cases it is minor compared to the gain. Sunset Junction encourages you to welcome the thousands of people attending the fair. The Sunset Junction Street Festival will almost certainly result in increased business throughout the year. With that said, SJNA firmly believes that no employee should pay for entrance into the festival. Therefore, we are offering free passes to your business. We hope that given the size 'ofthe business that wristbands should be distributed in the following way: Small business Medium business Large business: 5 pear day J9. u: '1 10 pear day 20 pear day Also, in speaking with the Council Office, in order to help insure that no employee pays for entrance to the festival, we will be implementing an additional method to ensure that we avoid any employee from paying for entrance. We will be collecting the names of employees who will be working at each business that weekend so that we may have their names on a list that we can check of the entrance with their proper identification. • We will contact the business 3 weeks before the event to determine how many passes they need. • We will deliver the passes a week before the event and ask the business to sign. understand we are working very hard to improve any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation. Please fell free to give us a call if you have any questions. Sincerely, Pleas~ 4019 W. Sunset Blvcf., . . ~Hntl! A.ngetes. "'~. 2".- r.v.
