 2011 Fundraising Target...
 What we’re SHOOTING fore!

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
What does a MRI mean for Cambridge
Memorial Hospital? How will MRI diagnostic services be funded?
Cambridge-area patients will soon have Approximately $800,000 in annual operating
increased access to diagnostic scans and benefit dollars will be provided by the Ministry of Health
from reduced wait times with a new MRI machine and Long Term Care, (MOHLTC) once the
at Cambridge Memorial Hospital – a first for this equipment is in place. This will help to pay our
hospital. Our goal is to have the MRI in full specially-trained team of radiologists and
operation within 12 months – Spring 2012. technicians. Consistent with other hospital
equipment, there is no funding from the MOHLTC
The new MRI machine is expected to provide for the machine.
patients with 3,120 scans every year and once up
and running will operate for 40 hours a week. This
MRI machine will make it easier for people who
need an MRI scan to get tested and treated more
quickly, closer to home. The current wait-time for
a MRI scan within the Waterloo Wellington LHIN
is an average of 44-98 days. The Provincial
target is 28 days. The addition of the MRI at CMH
will help to reduce wait times for all patients within
the Waterloo Wellington region.

What will it cost?
The capital costs of the MRI will be
funded by the CMH Foundation through
generous community support,
including events like our Golf
Classic. The entire project budget
is estimated at $4 million. The MRI
magnet unit will cost
approximately $2.25 million and
projected renovations will likely
run about $1.75 million (special
materials are necessary due to
the weight of the machine and
strong magnetic field).
Golfers can make a difference!
