Yucca Mountain Project Green Language in Request for Proposal for Office Products February 2006 Contact Delane Fitzpatrick-Maul, Pollution Prevention Program Coordinator Tel. 702-295-4973 E-Mail: delane_fitzpatrick-maul@ymp.gov Background Yucca Mountain Project has drastically reduced what may be procured in an effort to reduce office supply costs. The Request for Proposal contains a very limited list of 200 or so items that may be ordered. The biobased and Energy Star opportunities were considered. Yucca Mountain Project added these generically to a general requirement the vendor must comply with. As requirements change, they can be incorporated into the vendor's contract during contract extensions and renewals. Although the list of Recycled Products below may contain a few extra non-designated items, these are in general what Yucca Mountain Project purchases and includes in the annual RCRA 6002/EO 13101 report. Green Language in Request for Proposal BUYER must be notified if there exists recycled, energy efficient, or other environmentally preferable products in place of items listed that are within the government's guidelines of reasonable cost. Reporting Requirement The vendor must supply at the end of each fiscal year a report listing specific items (or everything that was purchased) and if the items are manufactured with recycled materials, dollar amount, unit, quantity, and page or item number for reference. This information is incorporated into a federal "green" purchasing report that is developed by the Environmental Compliance organization. Recycled Products The following are products that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, per a federal regulation, designates as recycled-content products. These products, when purchased, must contain a percentage of recycled materials. The vendor should identify all the recycled-content products that it can supply, particularly, the EPA required recycled-content products listed below. binders clip portfolios file folders wallets expanding files clipboards plastic desktop accessories envelopes presentation folders trash bags liners printer ribbons recycling containers waste receptacles tissue general purpose wipes towels paper napkins packaging products cartons storage boxes padded mailers toner cartridges printing and writing papers envelopes forms index card stock transparencies planner appointment books calendar post-its self-stick notes writing pads
