CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY SQUAMISH RELAY FOR LIFE
Date: Friday June 20th
Time: 7:00 pm – 7:00 am
Location: Brennan Park
The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a celebration of survival, a tribute to the lives of
loved ones and 12 hours of fun, friendship and fundraising to beat cancer. Relay involves
teams of 8 to 12 people who participate in a 12 hour non-competitive Relay from 7pm to 7am.
Cancer Survivors are invited to a VIP dinner after the Relay Begins. They are then invited to
walk the first lap – the Survivors Celebration Lap – to acknowledge and celebrate their
courage in their struggle with the disease. After dusk, a moving luminary ceremony takes
place. The event is a chance to spend time with friends, family or co-workers. Activities and
entertainment are part of the fun with bands, crafts, massage, dancing and many more
activities planned throughout the night.

Volunteers Needed! For Relay For Life – June 20th as well as helping with the set-up on June
19 and tear-down on June 21. Donate 4 hours of your time and be apart of the largest Cancer
Event in Canada. Relay For Life is held nationwide each year in nearly 400 communities!

VENDORS FOR THE PEMBERTON MUSIC FESTIVAL

If you are interested in being a vendor at the Pemberton Music Festival, please go to
iclservices.ca to fill in an application. The rent for vendors is $800. This includes; 10 x 10 space
inside a large tent, a light, 2 tables, 2 gate passes, 1 parking pass etc.

SERF SUMMER SOLSTICE 2008
Date: Saturday, June 21st

SERF is a summer rock festival, and so much more. To learn more about the music please
check out their website: http://www.serfmusicfestival.com. Early bird tickets are on sale for
$20.00, after Sat May 31st the tickets will be $25.00. Children 12 and under get in free. There
is no cost to participate, but we would ask that you register by May 31st. Tickets can be
purchased at the following locations; Gelato Carina, Agnes Jeans, The Squamish Adventure
Centre, Howe Sound Inn & Brew Pub, Onatah Coffee, The Burrow, Valhalla Pure, Trinity,

39th ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AT THE NORTH VANCOUVER OUTDOOR SCHOOL
Enjoy the North Vancouver Outdoor School’s annual Open House held on Sunday, June 1st,
2008 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Come find out what is happening at the salmon hatchery,
farm and Coast Salish Bighouse. This free family event is a chance to explore a school that runs
unique environmental and cultural programs in a spectacular park-like setting. There will be
an opportunity to try making paper, canoeing, archery and face painting. Go for a relaxing walk
through the forest to admire the 1,000 year old cedar trees. Special events include a silent
auction, First Nations activities like bannock making and salmon fry releases.
Pack a picnic lunch to bring along or purchase lunch at the concession. Healthy lunches, snacks
and refreshing beverages are provided by our professional kitchen staff, and can be enjoyed in
our dining facilities or while walking around the grounds.

Media Gathering, a free event for knowledge-based industry sector representatives from the             Commerce
Sea to Sky Corridor, on June 2, 2008 at the Squamish Adventure Centre from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

DEVELOPING A HIGH TECH ECONOMY IN A SMALL CITY

The Squamish Sustainability Corporation presents Dr. Ross Nelson.
Dr. Ross Nelson has studied the emergence of high-tech cluster models and the co-relation of
knowledge based industry, tourism and lifestyles in small cities across Canada and in Europe.
He will be presenting his research and discussing implementation options for Squamish’
Knowledge Based Industry Strategies at the Adventure Centre on June 6th at 1:30. All
community stakeholders are invited to join the SSC in this unique learning opportunity.

BC 150 DAY CELEBRATION HOSTED BY THE SQUAMISH HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Squamish community members and service organizations are invited to attend the Squamish
Historical Society’s upcoming local BC 150 Day event. It will be action packed day for the whole
family including photo contest awards, an antique road show, and locally produced historical
movies airing in the Adventure Centre theatre. Do you or your organization want to take part
in Squamish’s BC 150 Day event on June 7th? The Squamish Historical Society is currently
working with the Squamish Nation and BC Government Services to celebrate with us.
