                            Esculene Hall Smith 94, of Ormond Beach, FL formerly of
                        Williamson, WV passed away January 3, 2011 at Florida Hospital
                        Oceanside in Ormond Beach, FL. She was born March 21, 1916 in
                        Williamson, WV to the late John Smith Hall and Vinia Preece Hall. She
                        is also preceded in death by her husband; Johnny Smith, sister; Ernestine
                        Gedel, brothers; Carl B. Hall M.D. and Cullen G. Hall, ESQ. She was a
                        member of the First Presbyterian Church and a retires insurance
                        underwriter for Mingo-Tug River Insurance Agency.
   Esculene resided all of her life in Williamson and loved the area and its people. The last years
of her life was spent in Florida with her son and his family. When asked how she liked living in
Florida, she would always reply, "West Virginia\Kentucky is my home. I am just on vacation."
   Esculene is survived by her son; John Raymond Smith and his wife; Julie Smith,
granddaughter; Lindsay Frey and grandson; Brandon Smith all of Ormond Beach, FL and she
also leaves behind many life-long dear friends.
   Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday January 8, 2011 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Reverend Nick England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview
Cemetery, Williamson, WV with Ivan Albert, Larry Blackburn, Ronnie Ferrell, Bill
Linkenhoker, Gary Meade, Denny Moore, Larry Moses and James David Slater serving as
pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Blackburn, Greg Hurley, Jimm Kirk and Rodney
McCoy. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM till 2 PM Saturday at R. R. Rogers Funeral Home. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Esculene
Smith.

                              Hattie Bevins 94, of Hatfield, Ky. passed away Wednesday,
                         January 5, 2011 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
                            Born June 30, 1916 in Pike County, Kentucky, Hattie was the
                         daughter of the late Joe Bud and Vada (Young) Burris. Besides her
                         parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bevins (died
                         Nov. 22, 1987); sisters, Maxine Young, Lakie Robinette and Luna
                         Bevins and half brother, Virgil Burris.
                            She was a homemaker and a member of the Pilgrim Home Old
                         Regular Baptist Church. Hattie was happiest when she was raising
vegetables in her garden and flowers in her yard.
   She is survived by one son, James H. "Jimmy" (Connie) Caines of Belfry, Kentucky; two
granddaughters, April (Russ) Thompson of Lexington, Kentucky and Jamie (Ryan) Smith of
Lexington, Kentucky; five great grandchildren, Evan Thompson, Steven Smith, Alyssa Smith,
Abigail Smith and Addison Smith all of Lexington, Kentucky; Special Nieces, Sandy (Cal)
Runyon of Pikeville, Kentucky, Linda (John) Ball of Belfry, Kentucky, Debbie (Tommy)
Robinette, of Hatfield, Kentucky; Special Nephew, Burton (Hazel) Bevins of Hatfield,
Kentucky; special great nieces and nephews, Eddie (Yvette) Runyon, Lonetta (Jeremy) Moses,
Justan (Nicholas) Holder, Nicholas and Heather Bevins; great great neices and nephews, Triniti
Shae, Brock, Jayla, Jordan and Zoey and her loving caretakers, Kathy Rose, Anita Smith and
JoAnn Bevins a host of loving friends, who will sadly miss her passing.
   Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers Officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith
Cemetery at Rockhouse Fork, Hatfield, Kentucky with Russ Thompson, Ryan Smith, Eddie
Runyon, Nicholas Bevins, Jeremy Moses and Don Paul Bevins serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Friday, January 7, 2011 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with a
special singing service at 7 PM.

                         Lillian May 79, of Pinsonfork, KY passed away Thursday January 6,
                      2011 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born February 9, 1931 at South
                      Williamson, KY to the late Walsh and Tisha Wells May. She is also
                      preceded in death by her husband; Dover May, four sons; Pete Hatfield,
                      Dover May Jr., Dennis Ratliff and Tracy May and one brother; Marvin
                      May. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bluesprings Freewill
                      Baptist Church.
                         She is survived by three daughters; Brenda (Bill) Mayhorn of
                      Matewan, WV Linda (Glen) Mayhorn of Ballfork, KY and Karen (Randy)
Thompson of Pikeville, KY two sons; Rod (Caroline) May of Pinsonfork, KY and Tony
(Tammy) May of Pinsonfork, KY two brothers; Robert (Charlotte) May of Jacksonville, Fl and
Ersel (Margaret) May of Stone, KY eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a
host of family and friends.
   Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Sunday January 9, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home with Emery Varney and Larry Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at May Family
Cemetery, Octavia, Ky with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 PM
Saturday January 8, 2011 at the funeral home with special services at 7 PM.

   Carl Bowman, 49, of Williamson, WV, died Friday January 7, 2011 in Alachua, Florida. He
was born August 21, 1961 at South Williamson, KY. He was the son of the late Jesse James and
Elizabeth Dillon Bowman. He is also preceded in death by one brother; Billy Dillon and his
grandparents; Sam and Susie Dillon and Henry and Mary Ferrell. He was a retired coal miner
and of the Church of God faith.
   He is survived by his wife; Linda Bowman, three daughters; Jessica (Jason) Blankenship of
Lenore, W.V. Angela (Roger) Workman of Hardy, Ky. and Carla Jo Bowman of the home, one
son; Cody Dakota Blankenship Bowman of the home, three brothers; Warren (Pearl) Bowman
of Stanton, Ky. Tommy (Louise) Bowman of Burlington, Ky. and Danny (Sheila) Bowman of
McAndrews, Ky. three sisters; Judy (John) Catron of Ft. Wayne, In. Henrietta (Larry) Stiltner
of Troy, Oh. and Mary Meadows of Rawl, W.V. three grandchildren; Jason Thomas
Blankenship II, Tristen James Blankenship and Abigail Marie Workman and many nieces,
nephews and cousins who loved him very much.
   Funeral services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday January 15, 2011 at R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home with Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow at Rawl Community Cemetery,
Rawl, W.V. with Steven Meadows, Dewayne Meadows, Mark Meadows, Matt Barker, Johnny
Catron, Roger Workman, Earl Blankenship and Jason Blankenship serving as pallbearers.

   Homer Lee Slone, 79 of Black Gem, Ky. passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at the
Pikeville Medical Center.
   He was born August 11, 1931 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Willard and Sadie Hunt
Slone. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Slone, one daughter, Cheryl Slone
Fields and one sister, Owedia McCoy.
   Homer was a truck driver for Hogans Transfer and a veteran of the United State Air Force.
   Survivors include two grandchildren, Jason (Tonya) Fields of Hardy, Ky. and Jessica Steele
of Louisville, Ky.; great grandson, Brian Fields of Hardy, Ky.; one brother, Hearl Gene (JoAnn)
Slone of Williamson, WV; nephew, Gregory Slone and niece, Lisa Slone Fields and a host of
family and friends.
   Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery,
Black Gem, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6

   Carrie M. (Stanley) Peake 90, of Huddy, Ky passed away Monday January 17, 2011 at her
residence. She was born March 6, 1920 in McDowell County, WV the daughter of late Monsie
Stanley and Minnie Susan Frith Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Ernest
N. Peake and two brothers; Raymond Stanley and Monsie R. Stanley Jr. She was a homemaker,
a member of Stone Chapter #533 Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Stone United
Methodist Church.
   She is survived by one daughter, Susan (Peake) (Everette "Rusty") Thompson of Lexington,
Ky. one son, David Brian (Debbie Woods) Peake of Hardy, Ky.; three grandchildren; Kelli
(Thompson) (Dale) Krantz, Russell (April) Thompson and Melissa (Jamie) Stacy, five great
grandsons; Taylor Stacy, Dalton Stacy, Dakota Stacy, Pavel Krantz and Evan Russell
Thompson; one brother, Joe Stanley of Princeton, WV; her best friend for over 50 years, Juanita
Waskey and a host of family and friends.
   Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the R. E. Rogers
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother J. D. Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain
View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Dale Krantz, Terry Kinser, Ronnie Kinser,William
Jones, Greg King, Randall West and Jeff Hatfield serving as pallbearers. Visititation will be

                           Edna Irene (Reliford) Cassell, 90 of Huddy, Ky. went to be with the
                       Lord on January 20, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
                           She was born August 10, 1920 in Charleston, WV the daughter of the
                       late Henderson and Margie Bartley Reliford. She was also preceded in
                       death her husband of 47 years, Ervin Cassell; sisters, Geraldine Carroll,
                       Nada Ingels and Louise Smith and brother, Robert Reliford.
                           She is survived by her son, Danny (Theresa) Cassell of Toler, Ky;
                       daughter, Dianna Cassell of Huddy, Ky.; Grandchildren, Sheila (Gary)
Goff of Hardy, Ky. and Dreama Cassell of Webster, Ky.; Great Grandchildren, Brandi
Williamson of Murfreesboro, Tn., Larry Bruce Williamson of Canada, Ky., Christian Cassell,
Izaiah Cassell and Cehrigan Cassell all of Webster, Ky.; step grandchildren, Eric (Jamie) Whitt
and Kylie Whitt, Jason (Jamie) Whitt and Sawyer; brother-in-law, Wilbur Ingels; special friends

   Irene was a member of the Belfry First Baptist Church. She had served as Sunday School
Teacher, Training Union Teacher, WMU, Vacation Bible School teacher and helper and on the
hospitality committee. She graduated from Belfry High School in 1939. She was a postal
worker for 15 years, member of Belfry Homemakers, President of the Northeast area
Homemakers and served on the state board. Also a member of the Belfry Womans Club, 4-H
leader, Red Cross and ARH Volunteer worker.
   Visitation will be held fron 6 till 9 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 12 Noon at the R. E.
Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Helton and Brother Bob Norman officiating
with special singers, David Vargo and Patti Phillips. Burial will follow in the Mountain View
Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Larry Bruce Williamson II, Izaiah Cassell, Jason Whitt,
Eric Whitt, Mark Goff, Gary Goff II, James Earl Williams and Darrin Owens serving as

   Bertha Runyon Trout, 87, of Center, KY, formerly of Sidney, KY, passed away January 21,
2011 in Glasgow, Ky.
   She was born October 12, 1923 in Martin County, Ky. the daughter of the late Taulby and
Ellen Horn Runyon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tom Trout, sisters, Kate
Workman, Oma Workman and Patsy Burgett and brothers, Arrie Runyon and Jim Runyon.
   Bertha was a homemaker and a member of the Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Sidney,
Ky.
    She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Lonnie) Rose of Center, Ky., Sarah (Edward)
Thomas of Waynesboro, Ga., Thomas (Diana) Trout of Lancaster, SC and Michael (Linda)
Trout of Johnson City, Tn.; brother, Haskell (Josephine) Runyon of Borderland, WV; six
grandchildren, Stephanie Rose of Center, Ky., Jason (Amy) Thomas of Waynesboro, Ga.,
Patrick (Paige) Thomas of Macon, Ga., Mike Trout and Bobby (Stella) Trout of Johnson City,
Tn., and Amanda (Ricky) Hicks of Rock Hill, SC and one step-grandchild, Dustin Dickerson of
Lancaster, SC; three great grandchildren, Chloe Thomas, Preston Thomas, Mason Trout and

                        Richard Shane Carroll, 35, of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Saturday,
                    January 22, 2011 at his residence.
                        He was born September 8, 1975 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Richard E.
                    Carroll of Turkey Creek, Ky. and the late Alice Ford Carroll.
                        He was disabled, having been employed by Tramco and a member of the
                    Church of God.
                        Besides his Father he is also survived by three children, Cody Carroll and
                    Kayla Carroll both of Westerville, Ohio and Austin Carroll and his Mother,
Melinda Jude of Canada, Ky.; on sister, Michelle (Rodney) Williamson of Huddy, Ky. and a
host of family and friends.
   Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11 AM at the Canada Freewill
Baptist Church with Roger Williamson, Butch Williamson and Jack Maynard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Glen Rest Memorial Gardens, Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Wednesday,
January 26, 2011. Visitation will be held after 6 PM on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the
Canada Freewill Baptist Church with special services at 7 PM.

                    Judy Faye Little, 68 of McCarr, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January
                 22, 2011 at her residence.
                    She was born May 8, 1942 at McCarr, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred
                 and Pearl (May) Rife. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
                 her loving companion, Darrell Lockhart; one daughter, Wilma Jean Hyden; two
                 brothers, Raven and Avery Rife; and three sisters, Mary Rife, Ethel Bailey and
                 twin sister, Eula Faye Rife.
                    Judy was a retired cook at Food City and of the Church of Christ Faith. She
is survived by three sons, William Avery Hyden of McCarr, Kentucky, Samuel Jonathan Hyden
of Cincinnati, Ohio and Joshua Pauley of McCarr, Kentucky; two daughters, Rhonda Lynn
Trent of Delbarton, West Virginia and Coetta Ford of Delbarton, West Virginia; two sisters,
Sylvia Skeens of Charleston, West Virginia and Greta Mayhorn of Freeburn, Kentucky;
Grandchildren, Walter Ford Jr., Anthony Ford, William Hyden, Katie Trent, Dustin Trent,
Brandon Hyden and Ashley Hyden; great grandchildren, Hannah Hyden and Hailey Hyden;
one great grandson on the way and a host of loving friends.
    Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at R.E. Rogers Funeral
Home, Belfry, Kentucky with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson-
Hatfield Cemetery, McCarr, Kentucky with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

                                           Linda Darlene Johnson-Rolle (Rosebud), 47 of Miami,
                                       Fl. passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Henry Medical
                                       Center in Atlanta, Ga. due to a brief illness.
                                           She was born June 16, 1963 in South Williamson, Ky.
                                       the daughter of the late Rev. Carl Eugene Johnson Sr. and
                                       Evelyn Carter Johnson. She was a member of the Mount
                                       Carmel Baptist Church of Huddy, Ky. Linda graduated
                                       from Belfry High School, continuing her education at
                                       Eastern Kentucky University. Later in life moving to
Miami, Fl. where she became the wife to Kevin Rolle and devoted mother to Brandon Johnson,
Tiffany Rolle, Ashley Rolle and Kevin Rolle Jr.
    Surviving are her two sons, Brandon Johnson and Kevin Rolle Jr. of Miami, Fl; two
daughters, Tiffany Rolle and Ashley Rolle of Miami, Fl.; beloved daughter-in-law, Sheri
Johnson and granddaughter, Saryah Jaida Johnson of Miami, Fl.; five brothers, Carl and Lisa
Johnson of Harold, Ky., Clifford and Debra Johnson of Belfry, Ky., Joseph and Maria Johnson
of San Marcus, Ca., Johnny and Geri Johnson of Kileen, TX, and Paul Johnson of Philadelphia,
PA three sisters, Barbara Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Debra Johnson of Philadelphia, PA and
Brenda Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so very
much.
    If there is one thing that everyone could agree on, Linda was a God fearing woman after
Gods on heart. She always said that nothing ever matters when you know God is in control and
nothing ever did. Being the light that lead her husband, four children and many others to know
Jesus Christ. Romans 14:8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the
Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
    Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday January 29, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral
Home with Rev. G. C. Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory

night, January 30, 2011 in Georgia. He was born February 8, 1950 in Pike County, Ky to the
late Heston and Susie Juanita Farley Rose. He was retired from the U. S. Army.
    He is survived by his wife; Chong S. Rose, one daughter; Hanna Lee Rose of Charlotte,
N.C., one son; Robert Eugene Rose of Spartanburg, S.C., four brothers; Elbert H. Rose of
Canada, Ky. Herman Rose of Albany, Ky. Wayne Alfred Meade of Akron, Ohio and Joseph

                         Ricky Dale Thacker, 31 of Richmond, KY departed this life on

                      Orsion Byrd Maddison Lowe, 95, of Brushy Road, Pikeville, Kentucky
                   died Monday, February 7, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 28,
                   1915 at Pikeville, Ky. to the late James Montville Lowe and Ruth Leona
                   Taylor Lowe. He is also preceded in death by his wife; Claudia Francis
                   Lowe. Two sons; Donnie Lowe and Johnnie James Lowe, one daughter;

   She was born November 10, 1964 in Pikeville, Ky. the daughter of Phyllis Robinette Lowe

B. Hall Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1940 in Pike County, Ky to Claudia Jane Hager

Dotson, one sister; Annalene Harles and one brother; Billy Dotson. He was a general laborer
and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

   Magalene Louise "Maggie" Hager Varney 87, of Mount Airy, NC passed away Monday
morning, February 14, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
  Mrs. Varney was born November 23, 1923, in Mingo County, West Virginia, daughter of the
late William McKinley and Orthea Runyon Hager.
  Maggie worked at Cantee's Department Store in Williamson, West Virginia, in her early adult
years. She later worked at Sears-Roebuck Company in Williamson, West Virginia, where she
retired as a clerk after many years of service.
  Maggie and her husband, Earl L. Varney Sr., moved to Mount Airy, NC after their retirement
in 1981, and she worked part-time at Wal-Mart. Mrs. Varney was a member of Salem Old
Regular Baptist Church in Goody, Kentucky.
  She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Earl L. Varney, Sr. of the home; a son and
daughter-in-law, Earl L. Varney Jr. and Jan Varney of Mount Airy, NC.; two grandsons and
their spouses, Anthony Lee "Tony" and Melissa Varney of Mount Airy, N.C. and Gregory Earl
and Jessica Varney of Asheville, NC. and three great grandchildren, Jasmine Varney, Bryson
Varney and Mason Varney all of Mount Airy, NC.

                         Dorothy was born April 6, 1917 at McAndrews, Ky. the daughter of
                      the late Lee Otis Blackburn and Louvena May Blackburn West. She was
                      also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Jesse Mosley; sisters,
                      Florence May, Grace Ratliff, Audrey Hensley and Estilene Blackburn;
                      brothers, Lawrence Blackburn and Paul West; two infant sons and one
great grandson.
   She was a homemaker and she and her husband, Jess had owned and operated a grocery
store. She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, where she had attended
alongside her husband for many years.
   Survivors include four daughters, Anna Lee (Joe) Tetreault of Florida, Jackie (Ed) Guden
and Carol Mabe all of North Carolina and Connie (Mike) May of McAndrews, Ky., son, Gary
(Tami) Mosley of Williamson, WV; two sisters, Josephine Mullins of McAndrews, Ky. and
Jeraldine Adkins of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Norman West of Tennessee and William
"Bill" West of Florida; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great

                             The Lord called and our most precious angel, Christlene Chapman
                          answered his call, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Appalachian
                          Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky. after a lingering illness.
                             Christlene was born on July 18, 1941 at Kimper, Ky. the daughter of
                          the late General and Nancy Varney Chapman. Besides her parents she
                          was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Chapman, Alvin
                          Chapman and Don Chapman; two sisters, Helen Chapman Johnson and
                          Alma Chapman; three sister-n-laws. Rosie Chapman, Golessa Chapman
                          and Leona Chapman; three brother-in-laws, Cecil Johnson, Orville
Deskins and Earnest Donathan.
   She is survived by sisters, Marie (Herbert) Thornbury and Mildred Deskins both of Canada,
Ky., and Mable Donathan of Michigan; brothers, Tom (Ruby) Chapman of Canada, Ky., Elster
Chapman of Ohio, Denver (Betty) Chapman of Ohio, Doug (Sadie) Chapman of Tennessee and
Dee (Jennie) Chapman of Indiana and a host of other family and friends.

morning, February 18, 2011 at the Pincrest Rehabilitation Hospital Hospice Unit.
   He was born May 25, 1933 at Ransom, Ky. the son of the late Earnest Boots and Stella
Smith Runyon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Dixie Runyon; sisters, Edith
Little, Ernestine Hatfield, Rosalie Martin, Annette Dotson and Birdie Marie Coleman; brothers,
Francis "Bud" Runyon, Orison Runyon, Paul Runyon and Eddie Lee Runyon.
   Hassell was a former coal miner and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
   Survivors include two daughters, Rena Fay (G.W.) Shannon of Delray Beach, Fl. and
Patricia Mae Shannon of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Patsy Lee (Jim) Bunn of Greensboro, NC;
four sisters, Tom (Eleanor) Runyon of Pikeville, Ky., Charles (Pat) Runyon of Thomasville,

   Homer T. Blackburn, 79 of Fairdale, KY, formerly of Pike County, KY, died Saturday,
February 19, 2011 at his residence.
   He was born January 23, 1932 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Mitch and Jennie
Bowe Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Paulette McCoy and Estelna
McCoy and two brothers, Elmer Blackburn Sr. and Willard Blackburn.
   He proudly served in the United States Army and retired from Griffin Company after 30
years of service as a professional painter. He is a member of the Fairdale Church of God and
has resided in Fairdale for the past 50 years.
   Survivors include his wife, Louise Blackburn of Fairdale, Ky.; four sons, Lindell (Pat)
Blackburn of Russellville, Ky., Randy (Sherry) Blackburn of Glen St. Mary, Fl., Phillip

                      James Daniel "Jim" Hubbard, 66 of Pinsonfork, KY, passed away Tuesday,
                   February 22, 2011 in the Emergency Room of the Williamson Memorial
                   Hospital.
                      He was born January 21, 1945 at Pinsonfork, Ky. the son of the late
                   William Henry and Elkie Robinette Hubbard. He was also preceded in death
                   by one brother, David Hubbard and an infant sister, Gladys Hubbard.
                      Jim was a retired coal miner with Island Creek Coal Corp., member of the
                   UMWA and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
                      Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Marsha

    He was born January 20, 1938 at Hatfield, Ky. the son of the late Tolby and Minnie Goff
Curry. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Jim and Bob Curry
and a grandson, Ryan Alexander Curry.
    He was a retired school bus driver for the Pike County Board of Education and a member of
the Bells of Joy United Baptist Church.

    Boger McCoy 84, of Princeton, NC formerly of Burnwell, KY passed away Friday February
25, 2011 at SECU Hospice Center in Smithville, NC. He was born April 24, 1926 at Burnwell,
KY to the late Robert "Bob" and Mary Charles McCoy. He is also preceded in death by his
wife; Edna "Lillie" McCoy, two brothers; Robert McCoy Sr. and Homer McCoy and two

                            Bessie Robinson Lowe, 94, of Williamson, WV, passsed away
                         Thursday March 17, 2011, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital E.R.
                         She was born August 26, 1916 in Pike County, KY daughter of the late
                         James A. Robinson and Matilda Stanley Robinson. She married James
                         Edward Lowe on June 21, 1962 and he passed away on October 8,
                         1995. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Kenus Robinson,
                         William Burley Robinson, Joseph Robinson, Cleston Robinson, Johnny
                         Robinson and Elcaine Robinson and sisters, Gertrude Newsome and
                         Sarah Ann Maynard.
                            Bessie was baptized the third Sunday in September 1969 by Elders
                         Charlie Johnson and Henry Maynard. She took membership at the
Apple Orchard Regular Baptist Church the first Sunday in October, 1969.
   Bessie is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and one special great great nephew,
Terry L. Workman Jr.

                             Sammy R. Ritz, 71, of Chattaroy, WV, passed away at his home on
                         March 20, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.
                             He was born May 7, 1939 in Mingo County, WV.
                             Sammy accepted the Lord on January 22, 2011 but due to his illness
                         was unable to be baptized. He was of the United Baptist Faith. He was
                         retired from Tramco where he worked as a mechanic. After retiring he
                         spent much of his time sitting by the lake doing one of his favorite
                         hobbies of fishing.
                             He was preceded in death by his parents, Easter Ritz Harrison and
Jerry Harrison; one brother, George Harrison and one sister, Anita Evans.
    He is survived by his loving companion of 23 years, June Diamond Johnson of whom he
made his home with. Two step children, Steve (Lora) Johnson of Canada, Ky. and Cindy
(Steven) Robinson of Prichard, WV and one stepgrandson. Four sons, Phillip Ritz of
Lexington, Ky., Steve Ritz of Varney, Ky., Robbie Ritz of Kimper, Ky. and Jamie Ritz of

                             Anna Louise (McKee) Hankins, 91 a lifelong resident of Pond
                           Creek, entered into heaven on Monday, March 21, 2011. Anna is
                           preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Glenn, parents,
                           Robert and Mary (Coyer) McKee, siblings, Robert (Mary) McKee,
                           Mildred Dotson, Iva Dean (Elster) Clevenger, Hazel Fanto and Betty
                           Jane Phillips, two granddaughters, Wendy Suzanne and Sandra Beth
                           Phillips.
                               Born in Borderland, WV on September 4, 1919, Anna was the
                           oldest of six children. She spent her younger years at McVeigh, Ky.
                           where she began a teaching career with an emergency certificate at
                           age 16.
    Anna is survived by one son, Thomas Glenn, Jr. "Tommy" (Dawn) of Chapmanville, WV
and four daughters, Mary Ann (Darrell) Williams of Galena, Ohio, Jennifer (Ed) Wilford of
Dublin, Ohio, Susie (Boyd) Phillips of Shelbyville, Ky. and Cindy (Rob) Robertson of
Hurricane, WV; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is
also survived by a special friend, Betty Canada.
    Anna's teaching career that began at McVeigh, ended with retirement after years of teaching
at South Williamson Grade School. She touched many lives, even some students older than
she, since she began her career at a young age. She earned an Associates Degree from Pikeville
College and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky.
    A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamson, WV, Anna taught Sunday School
for many years and was active in Women's Circle #3 and received Lifetime Membership to the
Women of the Church. Also, Anna was honored in 2006 with the Dedicated Service award.
Many years of volunteering at the Appalachian Regional Hospital gift shop helped fill her
retirement years. Anna enjoyed gardening, spoiling grandchildren and arranging flowers that
were donated to the ARH gift shop for resale and she was a former member of the Belfry Area
Women's Club. Anna enjoyed checking her email for notes from the family, reading and
playing bridge.
    Calling hours on Saturday evening, March 26, 2011 will be held at Rogers Funeral Home
from 6 till 9 PM. Funeral services will begin at 2 PM Sunday, March 27 at the First

                                  Steve Kohari, 85, of Chattaroy, WV left his earthly home on
                              Saturday, March 26, 2011, and was welcomed with open arms into
                              Heaven and was reunited with his beloved Mother. He passed
                              away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born
                              August 31, 1925, to Hungarian immigrants Andy Kohari and
                              Elizabeth Dudash Kohari in Caretta, WV. He will be greatly
                              missed by all who knew him, loved him, and were fortunate enough
                              to be his friend. He never met a stranger and often would give of
                              his time and energy to better someone else's life. He had a
                              wonderful life; never missing the opportunity to travel, fish, and
                              hunt. We have our many cherished memories of him including the
                              priceless stories he would tell us about the many "best" ever fishing
                              or hunting trips. He loved his family and spent as much time as
possible with each of them. He loved trips to his houseboat in Tennessee and he especially
loved spending long vacations hunting at his daughter and son-in-law's farm in Ritchie County,
WV.
   Steve received the Bronze Star on March 5, 1945 while serving with the 247th Engineer
Combat Battalion in Germany during WWII. He retired from coal mining in 1981 after 40
years, much of that time having been spent with Island Creek Coal Company. He was a
member of UMW Local 1440. He was a long time member of the Chattaroy Missionary
Baptist Church.
   In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by brothers, the Rev. Andy Kohari,
John Kohari, Frank Kohari, Jim P. Kohari and sisters Mattie "Mary" Hedrick, Julia Kohari
Gondel, Elizabeth Kohari Wilson, and Jo Ann Kohari Sweeney; and an infant granddaughter,
Angela Lousie Bruni. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Peggy Ruth Thompson
Kohari, son Duane D. (Reta) Kohari of Charlotte, NC; daughter Mary Jo (Doug) Dudley of
Burnwell, KY; and daughter Susie (Dominick) Bruni of Petroleum, WV. Grandchildren Steven
(Jasmine) Dudley of Henderson, NV; Dr. Mary Beth Dudley of Tucson, AZ; Meredith Kohari
of Raleigh, NC; Joseph Bruni of Cincinnati, OH; and Amy Bruni of Grand Junction, CO.

                                Thomas J. Edsel Williamson 83, of Sidney, KY passed away
                              Monday April 4, 2011 at his residence. he was born December 25,
                              1927 at Huddy, Ky. to the late Johnny and Nancy Spears
                              Williamson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; James
                              L. Williamson and Ernest Williamson and his son-in-law; Jeffrey
                              Rutherford. He was a retired railroader, a member of the Belfry
                              Freewill Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War serving
                              in the U.S. Army.
                                He is survived by his wife; Shirley Jean Moon Williamson, four
                              sons; Tommy Dean Williamson of Dix Fork Sidney, Ky, James T.
Williamson of Dix Fork Sidney, Ky., Jerry Lee Williamson of Revlo, Ky., and Terry Eugene

                                 Ruth Harmon Bailey 84, of Forest Hills, KY formerly of
                               Newtown, WV went to be with the Lord, Monday April 4, 2011
                               at the ARH Skilled Nursing Facility at South Williamson, KY
                               with her loving children present at her bedside. Ruth was born
                               May 6, 1926 at Varney, WV. She was the daughter of the late
                               James and Nannie Harrison Harmon. She was preceded in death
                               by her devoted and cherished husband; Hughey "Ben" Bailey.
                               She was also preceded in death by five brothers; Burl, Reaford,
                               Donald, Elmer and Lige Harmon and two sisters; Eunice and
                               Ruby Harmon.
                               Ruth was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church at
                               Belfry, KY. Most of her adult life, she was a devoted wife and
mother to her family. She worked at numerous jobs throughout lifetime. Ruth was especially
proud of her work and service at the New Town Head Start Center.
Ruth is survived by one brother; Johnny Harmon of San Antonio, TX and three sisters; Inez
Null of Ocoee, MD Louise French of Tampa Fl. and Phyllis (Doris) Hickman of Morristown,
TN. Phyllis was always there for her in the best and worst of times.
Ruth is survived by two sons; David Lee (Sharon) Bailey of Taylor, MI and Harvey (Dale)
Bailey of Statesboro, GA. two daughters; Patricia (Gordon Blaine) Cathell of Tunnelton, WV

  She was born January 29, 1916 at Middlesboro, KY. to the late John and Anna Potensky. She

  Billy Chapman, 84, of Williamson, WV passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Trinity
Healthcare of Logan, WV.
  He was born October 7, 1926 at Thacker, WV the son of the late Sydney Allen and Fannie E.
Hatfield Chapman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sampson Chapman;
daughters, Cindy Lee Chapman and Baby Girl Chapman; sisters, Juanita DeWolf and Jaquita
Griffth and brother, Golden Chapman.
  Billy was a retired US Navy Veteran with over 20 years of service and then he was a resident
manager for Luke Waldrop. He was a member of Boone Masonic Lodge # 247 F. & A.M. in
Roanoke, Va. and a member of the Freedom Center.
  Survivors include one son, Billy (Lori) Chapman; four daughters, Virginia (Dennis) Shelton,
Tina McDaniels, Theresa (Bobby) Wilson and Cheryl (Ricky) Ball; twelve grandchildren,

                           Monday April 11, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
                           He was born January 15, 1973 in Williamson, WV to Rachel Lynn
                           Phillips Thacker of Forest Hills, Ky. He is preceded in death by his
                           baby brother; Jeremy Grant Hopkins, maternal grandparents; Millard
                           and Mary Ann Phillips, whom he loved with all his being, and a
                           special cousin and friend; William David Phillips. He was
                           construction worker, a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church
                           and a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

son; Jeremy Keith Hopkins, and two daughters; Keila Brooke Hopkins and Autumn Dawn

Burl Carson "Tiddle" Rose, 40, of Hardy, KY passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at his
residence.
 He was born March 3, 1971 in Detroit, MI to Kathy Scott Rose of Hardy, Ky and the late Gary
Rose. He is also preceded by his grandparents; Burl and Nellie Scott and mother-in-law; Shirley
Conley. He was a coal miner and a member of the New Beginning Church of God.

Besides his Mother, he is survived by his wife, Lou Wanna Bernice Conley Rose of Hardy; two
sons, Christopher Rose and Corey Rose both of the Home; father and mother-in-law: David and

Kenneth Darrell Elkins, 53, of Hatfield, KY passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in the
Emergency Room of the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
He was born April 17, 1957 in Pike County, Ky. the son of Georgia A. Lowe Elkins of Hatfield,
Ky. and the late Robert Elkins.
Kenneth was a heavy equipment operator for Halfway Branch Surface Mine and a faithfull
member of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church.
Other survivors include his loving wife, Mildred Ann Robinette Elkins of Hatfield; sons, Robert
Seth Elkins of Lexington, Ky. and Joseph Bevins of Blaine, Ky.; daughter, Candace Bevins of

He was born February 27, 1924 in Martin County, Ky. the son of the late Lewis and Maudie

after a lingering illness.
He was born September 16, 1946 at Logan, WV the son of the late Elmer and Octavie
Canterbury Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Grayson Johnson.
He was disabled all his life and of the Baptist Faith.

                               Reverend Michael Kohari, 80, of Forest Hills, KY left his earthly
                               home Friday, April 22, and was met by his heavenly Father with
                               open arms saying "Child, child enter now into the courts of heaven.
                               You have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler
                               over many things."
                               He passed away with the love of his family who were so dear to
                               him.
                               He was born September 30, 1930, to Hungarian immigrants Andy
                               Kohari and Elizabeth Dudash Kohari in Caretta, West Virginia.
                               Mike would often say "I don't question the Lord in regard to my
life; I trust him with my life. When I committed my life to Christ, I became His child. God takes
care of His own.”
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by brothers, Steve Kohari, Rev. Andy
Kohari, Jim P. Kohari, John Kohari, Frank Kohari and sisters, Mattie "Mary" Hedrick, Julia
Kohari Gonda, Elizabeth Kohari Wilson and Jo Anne Kohari Sweeney.
Mike was retired from Appalachian Power Company, a Minister, and a member of the First
Baptist Church of Forest Hills.
He is survived by the jewel of his life, his wife, Jewell Kohari; daughter Brenda (David) Pacific
who loved him dearly; son, Michael Kohari, Jr., wife Susan; grandchildren Kristin (Daniel)
Jenkins and Bradley (Summer) Kohari one precious great-granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Jenkins
and one brother, Joey (Margaret) Kohari of Chattaroy, WV. He had a grandpuppy, Angel, who
was so special to him.
God called Mike to "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." And he loved to fish and
became one of God's best fishermen.
Mike's friends and family and church family meant more and more to him. Now he can rest at
the feet of Jesus forever more.
The funeral is Monday, April 25, at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church of Forest Hills. Officiating
will be Scottie Sumner, Thurmon Coleman and Steve Mickey. Burial will follow in the Smith

Born June 20, 1928 at Canada, Ky, a son of the late Earl D. and Bertha (Chapman) West.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one brother, Walter West
and one niece, Rita Tyson.

Charles was a Bus Driver, having at one time driving for the Scott Nichols Bus Company and
for a Bus Company in Huntington, West Virginia. He attended the Old Regular Baptist Church
and he served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by one sister, Lola Charles of Goody, Kentucky, one niece; Freda Charles of
Hurricane, WV, six great nieces and nephews; Shannon Gay, Crystal Slone, Donovan Slone,
Freddy Goins, Sheila Henry, Angelia Tyson and a host of other family and friends.

       Jack Jarrell, 80 of LaFollette, TN formerly of Mingo and Wayne County, WV passed
away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in St. Mary's Hospital, LaFollette, Tn.
       He was born October 13, 1931 in Rameytown, WV the son of the late Albert and Dollie
Canterbury Jarrell. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Troy Jarrell, Frank Jarrell,
Roy "Buck" Jarrell, Albert "Abby" Jarrell, Kirby Canterbury and Delbert Canterbury and three
sisters, Hazel Hardin, Ruth Montgomery and Emogene Columbia.
       Jack was a disabled coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America
for 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Kermit Masonic Lodge #167 F. & A.M. for 50
years, a member of the Worshipful Grand Lodge of the State of West Virginia and of the
Baptist Faith.
       He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann Urban Jarrell of LaFollette,
Tn.; one loving daughter, Patricia "Patty" (Michael) Runyon of LaFollette, Tn.; a grandson,
Stephen (April) Runyon of LaFollette, Tn.; two great granddaughters, Caitlin and Cambry

       He was born May 24, 1961 at South Williamson, Ky. the son of Josephine Fields Hager
of McCarr, Ky. and the late James H. Hager. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert
H. Hager and his Mother-in-law, Edna Slone.
       He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the Church of God.
       Besides his Mother, he is survived by a son, James Gary Hager Jr. of Belfry, Ky.; a
daughter, Kashina Hager of McCarr, Ky.; a brother, Brian Hager (Carrie) of Ransom, Ky.; five

                           He was born September 12, 1942 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the

                           Fred was a retired coal miner having been a truck driver for Kirk
                           Trucking. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the

                     Charles Curtis "Cornshuck" Smith, 81, of Sidney, KY, went home to be
                     with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 4:58 PM. According to his
                     wishes, he died at his home on Dix Fork surrounded by his loving family.

                     He was born September 23, 1929 in Pike County, KY, the son of the late
                     Omer and Fanny May Smith. He was also preceded in death by his loving
                     wife of 45 years, Minnie Lucille Pinson Smith, two sisters and one
                     brother.

                      He is survived by his three children; Bonnie (Dennis) Blackburn of
Sidney, Ky., Charles (Susan) Smith of Georgetown, Ky. and Tammie (Randall) West of
Canada, Ky.; four grandchildren; Suzanne (Justin) Zumwalt of Georgetown, Ky., Amber (Matt)
Goble of Prestonsburg, Ky., Jessica Smith of Georgetown, Ky. and Jacob (Miranda) West of
Canada, Ky.; two great grandchildren, Taylor and Brody Zumwalt of Georgetown, Ky.; two
brothers, Onis Smith of Canada, Ky. and Herbert Smith of Ypsilanti, Mi.; two sisters, Fonnie
Kincaid and Mary Jane Smith both of Raceland, Ky.; Special friends who aided the family in
his care were Lacy Walters, Daniel Stanley, Steve Mullins, Walter Bogar and his brother, Onis
Smith. Special niece, Vicki Hatfield provided nursing care on the day of his death.

He was a faithful member of the Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church for 46 years, having
joined with their congregation in July 1963. He was a retired coal miner and also an avid
hunter, gardener and outdoorsman prior to the decline of his health.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Dix Fork Old Regular
Baptist Church with his dear friend, Lacy Walters officiating. Other ministers will include
David Crigger, Edward Lee Smith and Ivan Neal Thornsbury. Burial will follow in the Varney
Cemetery, Dix Fork with Steve Mullins,Walter Bogar, Bruce Williamson, Tony Williamson,

She was born January 7, 1964 at Williamson, WV the daughter of the late Carles Bob Stepp and

Mark Anthony Alexander, 51, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, died Monday, June 6, 2011 in the
Pinacle Health Care., Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.


Born October 2, 1959, at South Williamson, Kentucky, Mark was a son of the late Christopher
Alexander and Mattie Thigpen Alexander. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one
sister, Ann Marie Alexander.


Mark was a Music Teacher for Elementary and High School and of the Baptist Faith. He is
survived by two brothers, Billy Ray Alexander of Williamson, West Virginia and Benny M.
Alexander of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Madeline Alexander of Williamson, West
Virginia and Sharon Alexander of Huntington, West Virginia and a host of loving friends and
family.

                              Roland Warren Aaron, 78, husband of the late Gathel Young
                       Aaron, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Candler Hospital in
                       Savannah, Georgia, where he resided with his son and daughter-in-law,
                       Wayne and Christina Aaron. Formerly of South Williamson, Ky. and
                       Shelby, NC, Roland will be missed by a countless number of friends and
                       relatives.
                                Born September 15, 1932 in Westerly, West Virginia, Roland was
                         the son of the late William Bradford Aaron and Ruth Childers Aaron.
                         He was married to Gathel Young Aaron from 1951 until the time of her
death in 2007 and their 56 year marriage was an example of love for everyone who knew them.
He was employed as a yardman by Norfolk & Western Railway Company for thirty six years
and a Korean War veteran of the US Air Force. Roland was a faithful member of Enon United
Baptist Church of Blackberry City, WV. Those who knew and worked with him respected him
for his generous spirit and his strong faith.
      1 John 4:13-15 "This is how we know that we live in him and he in us; He has given us of
his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his son to be the Savior of the
world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God."
Roland Warren Aaron made acknowledging Christ his daily bread.
       In addition to his parents and wife, Roland was preceded in death by his oldest son,
Roland Dean Aaron, daughter-in-law, Deborah Blackburn Aaron and brother, William Aaron.
He is survived by his son, Wayne Bradford Aaron and wife, Christina of Savannah, Ga;
siblings, Patsy Aaron Rhinehardt, Louise Aaron Ellis and James P. Aaron all of North Carolina;
five grandchildren, Amanda Gauze, Jennifer Aaron, Amber Meeks, Deana Jade Rowland and

knew her. She would smile the sweetest smile when around all those she loved; her greatest
treasure was her children. Her strength surpassed all understanding, with each trail she endured;
there was the peace of salvation that shined through her heart. Her race had been run, her
reward is Heaven and now she in rejoicing. She recently had a dream of her husband holding
her hand and telling her to come on, he kissed her on the cheek and took her home, that dream

                           Williamson, Ky. surrounded by her family whom she loved and they
                           loved her so much. She had worked for this day since July 1952.
                                  She was born November 4, 1931 at Stone, Ky. to Fee and Ida
                           Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents Winfrey (Fee) and
                           Ida Chapman Smith, her husband, Charles L. Farley, infant
                           daughter, Judy Karen Farley , brother, LeRoy Smith , brother-in-
                           law, James Bostic and sister-in-law, Mae Smith.
      She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Jean Farley and Connie Lynn Hatter of Stone,
Ky.; one grandson, Charles (Kelly) Hatter of Stone, Ky.; four great grandchildren, Whitney,
Candice, Alex and Colby Hatter of Stone, Ky.; one sister, Sue Bostic of Stone, Ky.; one brother,
Winfrey E. (Ruby) Smith of Pikeville, Ky.; several nieces and nephews who was with her
through her sickness and death and special friends, Lisa Smith, Susan Goins and Rebecca
Marcum.
       She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church, which she faithfully attended
until her illness. Her desire was to always be able to attend church services.
     Visitation will be at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Wednesday at 6 PM with services at 7
PM. Funeral will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 1 PM at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Buddy
Kendrick, Roger Blackburn and Donnie Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the
Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers.
