WHAT IS A COmBINED DEGREE? FT = FULL-TIME
                                                                                                         PT = PART-TIME
A combined degree at the University of Newcastle means that you can achieve two qualifications
                                                                                                         A = ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE
in one go. You’ll have the advantage of graduating with two degrees, in less time than it would
take to complete them separately. R = RECOMMENDED STUDIES

time study, you’ll graduate with two degree qualifications. If you are interested in both business
and	engineering,	you	can	choose	the	Bachelor	of	Engineering/Bachelor	of	Business.	You	will BACHELOR OF ARTS/
graduate with both qualifications after five years of full-time study. Combined degrees offered BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

                                                    HECS-HELP
                                                    To make university affordable, the Australian Government provides a loan to

                                                    scheme.	This	loan	is	available	to	Australian	citizens	and	Australian	permanent

                                                    You won’t actually get the money – the government covers the cost of your
                                                    contribution by paying the loan amount directly to the university on your behalf.
                                                    This is how it works:

Why the seahorse?
The University’s emblem since 1965 has
been a mythical seahorse, based on the naval
coat of arms of Lieutenant John Shortland,
who chartered and named Hunter’s River in
1797. Our seahorse today looks back to our
heritage and the history of Newcastle; and it
looks ahead, recognising our status as one of
Australia’s most forward-looking universities.
