Congratulations to Leah Dump on winning “Chick-fil-A” for a day.” A breakfast
biscuit, a chicken sandwich combo meal for lunch and a spicy chicken sandwich for
dinner. E-mail your birthdays and anniversaries to country@wkml.com. Don‟t
forget the name of the person celebrating the birthday and their daytime telephone
number. THANXXX! Don.

Today is the 256th day of the year. There are 109 days remaining.

We had a very special ceremony at Carroll Memorial Baptist Church last night as
Myron Boone was ordained as a preacher. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a
wonderful reception in the church fellowship hall.

Congrats to Christina Lowery and the graduates of the Basic Law Enforcement
Training. Enjoy your graduation ceremony tonight at Robeson Community College.

The Cumberland County Fair begins Thursday and our very own Larry K Smith will
be broadcasting live each weekday afternoon from 3-7.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Work begins on the rebuilding of the Chatham County
Courthouse. There will be detours in downtown Pittsboro.

ANOTHER suspicious fire? Yes. Firefighters responded to a 7th suspicious fire in the
Glen Laurel subdivision in Clayton. All 7 homes were under construction.

News of the Weird: You won't need a watch to tell the time in Steamboat Springs.
At least not at noon. The noon whistle is coming back to the Colorado ski town. The
steamboat-like whistle had been a Steamboat tradition until 2008. The old whistle
wasn't structurally sound. The new one is made from stainless steel, but won't be
quite as loud. A civic group raised $5,500 for the whistle revival, including the sale
of mini-whistles.

Esther Hill is the LEGO Lady of Homer, Alaska. She's been collecting LEGO's for
more than 30 years. She has no idea how much she's sunk into her LEGO hobby.
Her home is chock-full of her constructions, from a street of Victorians, to a LEGO
railroad that runs around her LEGO city. Hill tells a local paper (Homer News) that
she shares her love of LEGO's with her 26 great-grandchildren.

It‟s time now for Officer Don‟s Police Blotter: Police in Tennessee report a bank
robbery suspect left the driving to someone else. According to authorities in
Clarksville, the suspect called a cab before holding up the Legends Bank. Several
witnesses told police they saw the bandit getting into a taxi. The cab company
helped authorities track the taxi. Officers say they nabbed Vincent John Puccia after
he tried to make a run for it. The cabbie wasn't busted. Puccia is now charged with
aggravated robbery.
Just bought two pit bulls. That might be a pretty safe update for your favorite social
networking site. But you might think twice about posting you're not going to be
home. Police in Nashua, N.H., say crooks hit 50 homes last month. Sometimes the
bad guys had inside info, thanks to postings on Facebook and other social
networking sites. Police report busting three suspects and recovering up to
$200,000 worth of stolen stuff. WMUR-TV reports the thieves stole everything from
ammunition to electronics and remote-controlled cars.

A Footville, Wisconsin, volunteer firefighter was arrested after he made several fake
calls to 911 -- just so he could go out on a call. 24-year-old Dustin R. Bentivegna
allegedly made four separate false reports of gas leaks from his cell phone. He had
been with the fire department for roughly six weeks. Bentivegna was also arrested
in May for impersonating a police officer.

A Madison, Wisconsin, street musician was taken to jail after he smashed his guitar
over one man's head and slammed another into a wall. Apparently he was fed up
with people criticizing his music. 31-year-old Brandin Hochstrasser -- politely
known as "Bongo Jesus" to locals -- lost his temper when a 54-year-old man told
him he didn't like his stuff. After he attacked the duo of men he wrestled with his
arresting officer before being put down by a stun gun. Formal charges have yet to
be filed.

California police found a burglar they were hunting when he literally fell through a
ceiling and into their arms. Jose Parada, 23, was jailed on suspicion of burglary
Saturday after he allegedly broke into three businesses in Pico Rivera. Parada was
hiding in the attic of one of the buildings as deputies searched it. Officers heard a
noise in the attic and ordered him come out. After they sprayed pepper spray into
the attic, Parada fell through the ceiling and into the arms of a cop.

A Greeley, Colorado, man was arrested twice for DUI on Thursday – once while
driving his own car and a second time for stealing the police car he was in while
waiting to be taken to jail. Adam Segura was handcuffed and placed inside a police
car after a DUI arrest. He managed to slip off the cuffs and take off in the car while
police officers interviewed a witness outside. Officers chased him for about a mile
before he was caught.

WKML Country Notes 09/13
Corbin, Easton --- This Florida native earned a business degree from the University
of Florida. He signed to Mercury Records Nashville in 2009 and released his debut
single followed by a self-titled debut album in March 2010.

Ingram, Jack --- Jack Ingram has launched the Acoustic Motel -- a new YouTube
series in which he performs acoustic versions of his favorite country songs. First up
is a cover of Willie Nelson's "I'd Have to Be Crazy" -- which is the first song Jack
ever learned to play. He says, "Every now and again, I come back and re-visit it."

Jackson, Alan --- After a short break next month, Alan Jackson will kick off his fall
tour on November 4th in Sacramento, California. Chris Young and The Band Perry
will join the country legend, who'll release the album 34 Number Ones following the
tour.

Lady Antebellum --- Lady Antebellum have added a few dates to their already
crowded debut headlining tour. The Need You Now tour gets going in Orlando,
Florida on September 20th.

Moore, Justin --- Arkansas native Justin Cole Moore signed to Valory Music Group in
2008 and charted that year with the Top 40 hits “Back That Thing Up.”
-Named Billboard‟s “New Country Artist of 2009,” Moore was the only new Country
artist last year to earn No. 1 single status, for his hometown anthem “Small Town
USA.” Moore was the first solo artist to have a song from a debut album hit No. 1
since Taylor Swift‟s “Our Song” in December 2007.
-His self-titled debut album was released in August 2009 and includes “Small Town
USA,” “Backwoods,” “How I Got to Be This Way” and “Back That Thing Up.” The set
was recognized as one of the best albums of „09 in The New York Times‟
-Justin‟s latest single is “How I Got To Be This Way.” He‟s currently performing
alongside Brad Paisley on the “H20 World Tour.”

Rascal Flatts --- Happy birthday to a new dad -- Rascal Flatts' Joe Don Rooney. The
Flatts are also celebrating 10 years together, but at the tender age of 35, Joe Don
says they're ready for the next 10 years.

Rucker, Darius --- A copy of Darius Rucker's country music debut, Learn to Live,
has been included in a time capsule buried under the start-finish line at the newly
re-paved Daytona International Speedway. A surprised Darius says, "I can't believe
they chose my album to be a part of this commemoration... Wow."

Swift, Taylor --- Taylor Swift didn't walk away with any MTV Video Music Awards at
last night's presentation, but she did get the honor of having the most poignant
moment of the night. After weeks of speculation about how last year's Kayne West
debacle would play out on this year's show, Taylor acknowledged the incident
through her performance of "Innocent," a song apparently inspired by what went
down after she won the Best Female Video of the Award for "You Belong with Me."
The song's lyrics include the line, "Lost your balance on a tightrope. It's never too
late to get it back."

Trailer Choir --- Trailer Choir's Butter (Marc Fortney) and Carter's Chord's Emily
Robertson were married in a surprise wedding last Monday at Nashville's 12th and
Porter. You can check out the festivities leading up to the big event, as well as
highlights of the ceremony, on YouTube.
--- Sisters Becky and Joanna Robertson sang an impromptu version of "To Make
You Feel My Love," finding their lyrics on their phone, for the couple's first dance.
And Big Vinny appeared as the self-proclaimed "world's largest ring bearer."

Underwood, Carrie --- Two months after her wedding to Mike Fisher, Carrie
Underwood says married life isn't much different than dating. She tells Women's
Health magazine, "Sometimes our schedules will click, sometimes they won't. But
that's good because we're both independent."
--- Carrie's tour schedule goes back into full swing on September 25th -- right
about the same time Mike hits the ice for the Ottawa Senators.

Urban, Keith --- Keith Urban will be donating proceeds from all new memberships
and renewals to his Monkeyville fan club through October 5th to the We're All for
the Hall benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame. Keith will headline the concert
in Nashville on October 5th.

The 1-2-4 finish by the three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers was the 9th time JGR
teammates have finished 1-2 and the first time all three were in the top-5. There
were 14 lead changes among 6 drivers and only 3 cautions for 28 yellow flag laps.

The Chase for the Sprint Cup officially begins next Sunday afternoon at New
Hampshire Speedway with the running of the Sylvania 300.

Tell you what I would love to have for breakfast right now. Fried chicken from
Bruce & Mickeys on Legion Road in Fayetteville.

HOLLYWOOD:
Resident Evil: Afterlife has proven that the horror franchise is not dead. The 3-D
flick topped the weekend box office with $27.7 million, the best opening in the
series. It was the only new release of the weekend, which had the lowest total
gross of the year.

JERSEY SHORE: On last night's Jersey Shore...
-We returned with bickering Angelina and Vinny in an unlikely hook-up. She got
with her new guy, Jose, the next day. The Situation made things awkward, and
Angelina confessed to the double-smushing.
-Vinny got a visit from his family, including Uncle Nino, an O.G. (Original Guido).
-Snooki took a beach ball to the face in the hot tub -- and almost got into it with
Angelina.
-Pauly D and Vinny both met respectable girls. They planned a double date, with
some new outfits and flowers, but Vinny's girl bailed.

Friends of professional dancer Mark Ballas tell TMZ his partner on “Dancing with the
Stars,” Bristol Palin, has missed so many practices that he‟s afraid their
performance might be embarrassing. Ballas canceled last Monday‟s rehearsal
because of a party for his mother, then Palin, daughter of Sarah Palin, canceled
Tuesday because she had to give a speech. She canceled again on Wednesday
because her son, Tripp, was sick. Palin was able to practice only a half a day on
Thursday. Ballas and Palin are scheduled to dance together when the show
premieres live September 20th.

Back in the 80‟s everyone was talking about the show Dallas, but that might be
coming back as TV execs are looking at brining the show back to life. The idea of a
movie was going to star John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez, but it was scrapped with
the project going to TV instead. So far no plans have been made on bringing any of
the original cast back to the show.

Spencer Pratt was arrested in Costa Rica Saturday for illegal possession of a
firearm. He was released after signing a confession. He explains, "I've spent the
last week living alone in the jungle, reflecting on my past transgressions, and
working to become a better person. I had to live off the land, and hunt to survive.
As I departed the country this morning to continue my spiritual journey, I
mistakenly brought my hunting weapons to the airport. It was an honest mistake,
and they sent me on my way."

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth haven't sung their "Last Song" together. The
two, who broke up last month, are reportedly back together. Someone who spotted
them over the weekend said it looked like The Last Song co-stars had never been
apart.

Lindsay Lohan has gotten back to her roots -- in several ways. Not only has she
returned to being a redhead -- the New York native is back on the East Coast,
visiting her family for the first time since leaving jail and rehab.

Steve Harvey has been tapped as the new host of “Family Feud.” Harvey, who
debuts as the game show‟s new host today, is calling on his decades of comedy to
take the program in a new direction. He‟s already taped 100 episodes. “I bet you
there‟s not a funnier game show on TV,” Harvey said. Harvey replaces John
O‟Hurley, who hosted “Family Feud” for four seasons. Find out more at
www.familyfeud.com.

FACEBOOK:
Rhonda Cook writes in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution "How often do you update
your Facebook page? Never? Once a week? Once a day? Every hour?" A York
University study found those who frequently update their information on their
Facebook sites or who include “self-promoting” pictures of themselves are either
narcissistic or are struggling with low self-esteem. “They‟re updating their status
every five minutes and the photos they post are carefully construed. The question
is, are these really accurate representations of the individual or are they merely a
projection of who the individual wants to be?”

EXTRAS:
Most Prized Possessions---Following the recent release of new versions of the iPod,
portable media playing devices have been voted the “most prized possession”
among Facebook users, coming just ahead of the Blackberry. Ironically, only 1% of

America‟s 10 Worst Weather Cities---Syracuse, New York, and Miami, Florida, top a
list of cities named by the Farmers‟ Almanac as America‟s worst weather cities. The
Farmers‟ Almanac‟s 10 Worst Weather Cities appears in the 194-year-old
publication‟s 2011 edition. Topping the list of cities with the worst winter weather is
Syracuse, New York, for its “cold, clammy, snowy” weather and bitterly cold
temperatures. The city averages almost 120 inches of snow per season. Rounding
out the worst winter locales:
2. Duluth, Minnesota, with January temperatures averaging in at a mere 16°F.
3. Casper, Wyoming, with an average of 181 days of sub-freezing temperatures
each year.
4. Cleveland, Ohio, with bone-chilling winds sweeping down off of Lake Erie.
5. Detroit, Michigan, where two out of every three winter days are overcast.

Topping the list of cities with the worst summer weather is Miami, Florida. Miami‟s
subtropical climate becomes excessively hot and humid during the summer months.
Add to that the fact that it is right in the line of fire for most tropical storm and
hurricane activity, and its frequent thunderstorms, with an average of 44 inches of
rainfall each summer. Rounding out the worst summer locales:
2. New Orleans, Louisiana, for its high humidity and frequent tropical storms.
3. Dallas, Texas, for its hot as hell temperatures well over 100°F and frequent
tornadoes.
4. Mobile, Alabama, which sees temperatures above 90°F on two out of three days
in the summer, and average humidity levels between 60% and 70%.
5. Corpus Christi, Texas, where late afternoon temperatures peak around 94°F
during summer months.
