               Trekking on Mount Olympus and Alonissos Island

               The Greek Gods made their home on Olympus.
               Greece's oldest and most protected national park, it is not only the highest mountain
               in the country but it also boasts of the greatest concentration of flora and fauna,
               huge forest expanses and the crystal clear waters of Enipeas River.

               UNESCO declared Mount Olympus a “global biosphere conservation” site in 1981.


Day 1       Arrival at Thessaloniki - Transfer to Litohoro.

            Arrival at the airport of Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece (after the capital Athens), which was
            founded in 316 B.C. by Cassander the brother-in-law of Alexander the Great and transfer to Litohoro
            village in a traditional guesthouse. A welcome dinner will follow where you will be informed about the
            program. (overnight in the guesthouse in Litohoro)

Day 2       Hiking to refuge "Spilios Agapitos".

            After breakfast we are transferred to "Prionia", at altitude of 3500 ft. At the beginning of the path we see
            a small waterfall and we start hiking through beech and fir forests. As we continue our way up to 6,000 ft
            alt., we can admire a variety of woodland birds and flowers. After 3,5 hours of hiking we reach the "Spilios
            Agapitos" refuge. The rest of the day is free to relax for the next day when we climb to the top of the
            mountain. (overnight at "Spilios Agapitos" refuge)

Day 3       Peak ascent:

            We take a path up the cliffs, first reaching the peak "Skala" at 8,280 ft altitude high and later the peak
            "Skolios" at 9,549 ft high. From there, we go for the optional side-trip to "Mitikas" at 9,570 ft, the
            highest peak of Greece! The climb to Mitikas involves scrambling on a well-defined route and steep
            ascent of more than 2,500 feet on alpine terrain, followed by a long descent on the same path. After taking
            some pictures at the top of Mytikas and resting for a while, we return back to the refuge (6-7h). (Overnight
            at "Spilios Agapitos" refuge)

Day 4       Muses Plateau

            Today we leave the refuge and head to the "Muses Plateau" and the "Yiossos Apostolidis" refuge at
            8,922 ft altitude. This refuge affords a panoramic view of the dramatic Stefani peak, the “throne of Zeus”
            that dominates the plateau. After resting for a while, we return back to the refuge (7-8 h) (Overnight at
            "Spilios Agapitos" refuge)

Day 5       Walk to Prionia and visit to the monastery of St. Dionysos monastery

            We set out for our descent back to Prionia from where we will be transferred to St Dionysos monastery.
            There we walk into Enipeas gorge for a 15' minutes trekking and we visit a small waterfall with a natural
            river pool (3h). We then return to our guesthouse in Litohoro. In the afternoon, we have time to visit the
            natural river pools of "Vithos" in Litohoro Village. (Overnight at guesthouse in Litohoro)

Day 6       Alonissos island

            Transfer to the port of the city of Volos in Central Greece, where we board the ferryboat to Alonissos
            island. In the afternoon, we visit the town of Alonissos and have the opportunity to learn about the
            Northern Sporades National marine park, which was founded to protect the monk seal and rare species
            of birds. (Overnight at Alonissos)

Day 7       Trekking in Alonissos Chora

            After breakfast, we start our trekking from the "Chora" of Alonissos to visit the beautiful beaches that are
            close, such as "Mourtia" and "Virisitsa" for leisure time and swimming. Afterwards, we visit the
            "Kaloboulou" hill, which a panoramic view. The rest of the day will be free to relaxation.
Day 8    Votsi - Megali Ammos - St Anargiri

         Today's trekking combines sea and mountain. We have the chance to walk from "Votsi" a charming fishing
         village, through the mountain to "Megali ammos" beach, where we can swim and visit the St Anargiri
         monastery. Later on we return to our hotel.

Day 9    Free day

         Today we have a daily trip with zodiac boats to visit the small islands "Psathoura" and "Kira Panayia"
         inside the national marine park. Return in the afternoon to our hotel for overnight.

Day 10   Departure

         Early in the morning you take the ferryboat from Alonissos to Thessaloniki and drive straight to airport for
         your flight back home full of beautiful memories of a unique experience.
