WHAT: Mock Crash and Assembly To Discourage Drinking/Driving

On Tuesday, May 10, 2011, Whitmer will hold a mock crash and assembly for the high school’s
seniors to discourage drinking and driving on Prom Night and throughout the senior/graduation
season, and to encourage students to make smart choices. (Whitmer’s Prom is Saturday, May 14.)
The event will include a Mock Crash car accident where Police, Fire, and Rescue personnel will
respond. This will be staged on Edgar Drive between the Whitmer Auditorium and the baseball fields.
Please be aware that this is only a mock incident, and do not be alarmed by the sirens / lights.
Campus security will block off the road after Washington and Jefferson classes have started. Whitmer
drama students will portray the crash victims.
After the mock crash portion of the event, Superintendent Patrick Hickey will speak to the seniors and
share about the tragic night in 1975 when his sophomore sister, Jeanne, was killed by a drunk driver.
Schedule of events:
8:53 a.m. Seniors file into the Whitmer Auditorium
9:00 - 9:10 a.m. Introduction/Statistics by Evan Back (Whitmer Class of 2010)
9:10 Interruption by Officer Wizgen (School Resource Officer) with instructions
from Becky Swisher (Washington Local Social Worker)
9:10 – 9:40 a.m. Seniors asked to go outside to view the mock crash
9:40 – 9:45 a.m. Seniors return to the Whitmer Auditorium
9:45 – 10:25 a.m. Superintendent Patrick Hickey speaks / video / tribute to his sister, Jeanne
10:25—10:35 Students will be encouraged to “Take the Challenge” to pledge to be
acohol- and drug-free and sign banners. Bracelets distributed.
