MOBILE TELEPHONE USAGE AND REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
City of Coral Gables employees in certain job classifications warrant the assignment of mobile phones to conduct regular City business. While these cell phones are to be used primarily for work-related matters during normal business hours, the City recognizes that requiring City employees to carry a separate, additional cell phone for personal use is both cumbersome and costly. Therefore, the City’s mobile phone policy has been revised to allow reasonable use of cell phones for personal use. To offset the cost associated to the projected increase in personal minutes, all employees issued a City mobile phone will be automatically charged, through payroll deduction, a flat fee per month. As of June 1, 2008, the fee is $ 20.00 per month. Employees are reminded that the City has a long-standing policy that limits the conducting of personal business during the work day (refer to online Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule 17.3.2). Employees are also reminded that the City has a long-standing policy on the proper and approved use of City property (refer to online Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule 17.3.8). Both of these policies apply directly to the use of City cell phones. Each person issued a City cell phone is responsible to regulate its use, and to maintain the phone in a reasonable condition. By signing this policy the employee is certifying that he/she understands the Mobile Telephone Usage and Reimbursement Policy, and agrees to abide by established guidelines.
