and HP OpenView Network Node Manager 5.02
Introduction
Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT was released in October 1997. At that time, the Network Node Manager version available in the market was NNM 5.01 and 3Com’s Transcend ‘97 for Windows NT was tested to work with NNM 5.01. HP has since released NNM 5.02. Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT now supports the current version of Hewlett Packard’s Network Node Manager, version 5.02. The major visible change between NNM 5.01 and NNM 5.02 is the SNMP stack that is used/bundled with HP-NNM. While version 5.01 included FTP Software’s SNMP stack, the new HP-NNM version 5.02 includes ACE*COMM’s SNMP stack. This document certifies the integration between NNM 5.02 and 3Com’s Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT. Be sure to read all relevant Release Notes, Installation Guides, and User Guides for both Transcend Enterprise Manager and Network Node Manager.

Read this important application note before installing Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT software on a machine running NNM 5.02. This document describes an issue and a workaround regarding the combined environment. In addition, please check out the Open View website regularly for future patches. http:/ovweb.external.hp.com:80/cpe/patches/nnm/5.0x/intelNT_3 -4.X.html 1 SNMP Stack conflicts — When NNM 5.02 is installed, ACE*COMM’s SNMP software stack is installed in winnt40*\system32\wsnmp32.dll. When Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT is installed, FTP’s SNMP software stack is installed. Transcend ‘97 for Windows NT works with both SNMP stacks; however, HP’s NNM 5.02 requires ACE*COMM’s SNMP stack. The following OpenView Events ‘Critical Error’ message may be displayed if the wrong stack is installed: “Ovtrapd daemon is not running or can not start, snmp services not running or another service is using the port...” The following workaround has been verified.
Workaround After installing NNM 5.02 and before installing Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT, 1 Display the properties of the file C:\winnt40*\system32\wsnmp32.dll. 2 Click the version tab in the Properties dialogue box. Verify that the company name attribute of this file is ACE*COMM and proceed with the following steps. 3 Copy wsnmp32.dll to another location on your hard drive. 4 Install Transcend Enterprise Manager ‘97 for Windows NT. 5 Copy the wsnmp32.dll file you placed on your hard drive in Step 3 above, back into C:\winnt40*\system32. 6 Complete steps 1 and 2 above to verify that the company name attribute of wsnmp32.dll is ACE*COMM. If not, retrieve wsnmp32.dll from the NNM 5.02 distribution at OpenView/SYSTEMROOT/system32/wsnmp32.dll and proceed from step 5 above.
