08 FALL VOLLEYBALL [ COACHING SERIES
Volleyball coaching is an ever-changing field and the competitive advantage will go to the coach who stays current with the latest strategies and teaching techniques. The goal of our Fall Coaching Series is to provide you with the most efficient way to not only learn these strategies, but also how to teach them to your athletes. Learn new ways to organize, energize your athletes and create more enjoyable practices while increasing the competitive profile of your players. Choose one or more sessions that you would like to attend. The course outlines described below will be followed, but the overall goal of each session is to help you answer the unique questions you may have about your team.
INSTRUCTOR
Each clinic session is instructed by Sean Byron. Coach Byron is in his second season as Assistant Men’s Volleyball Coach for the Ohio State University Men’s Volleyball team. Byron came to Ohio State after eight seasons with the Rutgers-Newark men’s team. At Rutger’s, he held the unique position of the only NCAA head coach to guide a Division I men’s program and a Division III women’s program simultaneously. While at Rutgers, Byron was named the 2002 EIVA Coach of the Year. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Coach Byron has coached the USA Youth Men’s National team. Byron has also served as a head coach for the USA Junior National Team and as a head coach at the USA High Performance Camp Olympic Training Center. Most recently, he coached with the under-19 Jr. National team and the under-21 Jr. National team that qualified for, respectively, the 2009 and 2007 World Championships. Coach Byron currently serves as a C.A.P. (Coaching Accreditation Program) teaching Cadre.
COURSE OUTLINE
The content of each session is presented as a stand-alone course. Each session will focus on a specific aspect of the game of volleyball and the best techniques for training young athletes. Sessions last four hours and include classroom and on-court instruction. Session #1 - Saturday, October 18, 2008 1 PM to 5 PM Practice Planning and Implementation From planning a season to weekly preparation, save time with useful tips and strategies for making practices more enjoyable with less time spent by you the coach. Session #2 - Saturday, November 1, 2008 1 PM to 5 PM Training Ball Control Drills and techniques for giving your players the most out of each contact Session #3- Sunday, November 2, 2008 9 AM to 1 PM Drills and training techniques Team drills for each skill and competitive play are given and reviewed. Modifications will be made to fit every level of player. Session #4 - Saturday, December 6, 2008 8 AM to 12 PM Trends in technology for coaching How to use your own PC to assist in the planning and teaching of your players. Technology for every budget. Session #5 - Sunday December 7, 2008 8 AM to 12 PM Match Preparation/evaluation How to prep for matches and make adjustments on the fly that will score your team points!
