Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse Quotes
NCAA First Round vs. Cornell May 10, 2008 * Schoellkopf Field (Ithaca, N.Y.)
OHIO STATE HEAD COACH JOE BRESCHI
Opening Statement “The first thing that I would like to say is just how proud I am of these student-athletes, the coaching staff, and how these young men executed the game plan as we performed this week, and couldn’t be more proud of the enthusiasm of Stefan Schroder, he really ignited the entire team, not only offensively, but also defensively. I’m so proud of the first win in the history of the program in the NCAA tournament. There couldn’t be a better group of guys to lead us than this senior class. Those guys fought for four years to get to the NCAA tournamnet, and they certainly made the most out of it today. ” On impressions of the game “These guys came out here and really executed the game plan and put pressure on their offense to get them out of their rythm offensively. We had five goals scored by defensive guys and that’s who we are. We have identified ourselves this year with our transition.” On Schroder “He’s got a lot of confidence, great skills, and he was excited to come back home. ” On playing Duke next week “They are extremly loaded, but I’m just proud of our guys and how they come to work. We will be prepared and give the best we have. We will have our hands full, but we will certainly have a game plan. ”
OHIO STATE SENIOR MIDFIELDER KEVIN BUCHANAN
On Cornell switiching goalies “When they started to rotate the goalies in, we knew we had them on their heels. It gave some confidence to our side, and we need to make sure that we stayed dialed in and put good shots up on the board to make their life a little harder. ” On how they were able to score through open looks and effective ball movemennt “In the beginning of the game, we had eight diferent players score our first eight goals. I think our transition game and our defense sparked our offense, and when we do, we are usually successful. When we get our defense engaged like that were are successful. ” On the state of the OSU lacrosse program “I think the program is definitely growing. We are just trying to build our tradition like Johns Hopkins, Duke and Virgina.” On Playing Duke “We’re going to take it one team at a time, and focus on ourselves and do the little things right — play within yourself and as a team, and set what the goals are ahead.”
OHIO STATE SENIOR GOALIE STEFAN SCHRODER
On his opening goal “I hope it fired up my teammates.”
On the idea of playing with nothing to lose “We played a great team game, both offensivley and defensively. We were able to move the ball and communicate on defense, which is key is for us. ” On coming to play at Cornell
“We knew the automosphere was going to be tough, especially with the rich tradition of Cornell, but I think we handled it pretty well.”
OHIO STATE JUNIOR MIDFIELDER PEET POILLON
On the loss to Notre Dame “I think we would have liked to have gotten that win, but onyl scoreing two goals offensively was frustrating for us. and we had to go back to the basics. ” On playing with a big lead “I was telling the defenders to not look at the scoreboard. We got in a hudle after we scored and I was telling them to win each play.and to make stops on defense and not to look too far ahead. We couldn’t get too confortable with the lead and had to take each play as it came.”
