                 Programme “START”
The Programme is directed to young researchers, at the outset of their
career, who have already achieved some success in their field.

Young scholars are eligible to apply for stipends if they:
- are no older than 30 years old during the year when the application is
  filed (or 32 in case of candidates who have taken maternity or child
  rearing leave),
- are employees or PhD students at an institution of higher learning or
  other Polish institution whose chartered purposes includes conducting
  scientific research
- have scientific achievements, as documented by publications in
  recognized scientific journals.

The deadline for filing applications for a stipend for 2011 is
2 November 2010 (which also applies to current winners seeking a
stipend for a second year).

                 Conference grants
Grants covering expenses of participation in international symposia,
conferences, and congresses for young Polish researchers, seleced by
the Warsaw Scientific Society.

           Programme “VENTURES”
 The overall objective of the Programme is to increase the number
of innovative projects realized by young researchers, undergraduate
students, PhD students, or PhD graduates.
The main evaluation criteria are, as follows:
- scientific and innovative value of the submitted project
- principal investigator’s and tutors’ scientific record
- experience in implementing projects
- commercial potential of a project.
In the present call, the following items will be financed:
- personal stipend for the laureate: undergraduate students – up to
  1500 PLN/month, graduates - up to 1500 PLN/month, PhD students -
  up to 3000 PLN/month.
- scientific grant, whose total amount will depend upon the actual
  costs of the realized project (however, the total amount should not
  exceed 35,000 PLN a year).
The duration of the projects may range from 1 to 3 years.
The coming call will close on 2nd November 2010.

                Programme ”COLUMB”
Postdoc outgoing fellowships
Fellowships are awarded to the best young scholars in order to enable
them to stay (from 6 to 12 months) at the world’s leading research
centres.

To be eligible to apply for this stipend, a researcher must:
- hold a PhD degree
- file a stipend application no later than 4 years after obtaining the PhD
  degree,
- hold Polish citizenship or obtained in Poland a permit to settle or a
  permit for long-term residence in the European Union
- not to be beneficiary of other FNP stipend programmes (except for a
  Conference Grant) during the planned visit.

The application deadline is 15 March and 15 October.

               Programme “COLUMB”
                - after returning to Poland


After returning to Poland, awardees of the „KOLUMB”
Programme may seek a supporting grant for holders of
the FNP foreign stipends and a grant within the
HOMING PLUS Programme, under the general rules.

     Programme ”HOMING PLUS”
The objective of the Programme is to encourage young Polish
scholars abroad to return to Poland.
The Programme is also open to young PhDs who are citizens of other
countries but are interested in a postdoctoral position in Poland.
The Programme is directed to candidates, who:
- hold at least a PhD degree and are in the early stage of their academic
  career (up to 4 years after PhD degree)
- have been abroad for an uninterrupted period of at least 9 months
  (conducting research within a postdoctoral training, or preparing a PhD
  dissertation)
- intend to come to Poland within 6 months after the application
  deadline or return to Poland not earlier than 12 months prior to the
  application deadline and
- work in Poland in a research unit or have received a promise of
  employment there for at least the duration of the project.
Application deadlines is 15 October 2010.

                 Programme ”TEAM”
The Programme is addressed to research teams’ leaders intending to
engage undergraduate students, PhD students, or young PhD
researchers (up to 4 years after gaining the PhD degree) in the project.
The undergraduate students, PhD students, and young PhD researchers
must be selected in an open competition procedure performed on an
international level. The number of research team members selected
trough such a competition should not be lower than 6.
In the present call, the following items will be financed:
- personal stipends for the research team members: undergraduate
  students - up to 1000 PLN/month, PhD students - up to 3000
  PLN/month, young PhD researchers - up to 5000 PLN/month
- scientific grant, whose total amount depends on the number of
  engaged PhD students and young PhD researchers and on the actual
  costs of the project realized (however the total sum should not exceed
  35 000 PLN per a PhD student/year and 80 000 PLN per a
  postdoc/year).
The duration of the projects may range from 2 to 4 years.
Call closing date in 2010 is 30 September.

Marie Curie Initial Training Networks
                               (MC-ITN)
Researchers, within the first five years of their career, can apply directly
to the host institutions, which are participants of the network. Early-
stage researchers will financially be supported for 3 to 36 months.
Researchers must be nationals other than that of the premises of the host
organisation where they will carry out their project. They must not have
resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the
country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years.

Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship
       for Career Development
                              (MC- IEF)
This fellowship provides financial support for advanced training and
trans-national mobility, for a period of 12-24 months (full-time
equivalent), for individual projects presented by experienced
researchers*.
At the time of the relevant deadline for submission of proposals,
researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity
(work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more
than 12 months in the 3 year period immediately prior to the reference
date.
*Experienced researchers are researchers who either hold PhD degree
(independently of the time taken to acquire it) or have at least four years
of full-time equivalent research experience.

There are many possibilities of cooperation both for individuals
with different levels of experience in research and whole research
organisations, scientific institutes, and governmental bodies from
Member States, Candidate, and Associated Countries.

It is possible to work for JRC as a member of the statutory staff
(civil servants, temporary agents, contractual agents) and non-
statutory staff (fellowships, in-service training, seconded national
experts).
