             Internship in the heart of KOMO 4's newsroom!

Work with TV anchors, reporters, producers to create rocking news promotion
spots. You must love and want to improve your writing and video production
skills plus be able to work under sometimes stressful breaking news situations.
Must have great attitude and able to work 15-20 hours per week weekday
afternoons. You may also be asked to work additional hours, beyond the regular
M-F weekdays for special community events. This internship is for credit only and
is open to all Juniors and Seniors preferably pursuing a Communication,
Journalism, or Public Relations degree.

OVERVIEW
So, you have a choice. Do you want to make coffee at some fancy named place and sit in on the
occasional creative meeting? Or, do you want to learn a lot of things, get a ton of confidence and
experience, and put your skills to the test and perhaps add real work to your portfolio? Well if
you eager and want to learn then this is the opportunity for you.

This unique internship is designed to transform students to working professionals ready for the
next chapter in their lives. The internship is based inside of Fisher Radio Seattle’s fast-paced art
department. The department acts as a creative agency to the company (KOMO, KPLZ, KVI,
sister stations, and corporate needs) and for clients like Toyota, Suzuki, Windermere, plus many
others.

Past projects have included design and production of: Branding and logo development;
Publications; Display Advertising; Direct Mail; Vehicle Wraps; Signage and banners; Point of
Purchase Displays; Websites; Interactive and rich media; and Static and animated web
advertisements. Possible opportunities exist for the right student to work on photo shoots,
broadcast commercials, brand guides, html/css, actionscript, and more.

You will get your hands dirty, given the chance to cut your teeth and grow into the graphic design
field.

THE INTERNSHIP IS FOR COLLEGE CREDIT ONLY (MUST BE ACTIVELY ENROLLED
IN A COLLEGE PROGRAM AND ABLE TO REGISTER FOR AN INTERNSHIP CLASS)
AND IS UNPAID. AFTER QUALIFIED APPLICANTS ARE INTERVIEWED THEY MUST
BE ABLE TO SHOW PROOF OF COLLEGE STATUS AND CREDIT.
DUTIES
   Design of materials as assigned
   Production of materials as assigned
   Mounting of projects as needed
   Interface with clients and non-designers
   Organization of materials and supplies
   Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
   You must be eager to learn and grow
   You must be willing to take direction
   You must be able to take feedback (positive and correcting)
   You must be able to commit to 4 or more days a week for 20-25 hours a week during our
     business hours (Weekdays 8am-5pm)
   You must be on time ready to work on you appointed days
   You must bring your A Game often
   You must know the basics of a Macintosh
   You must have know the basics of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign (CS3/CS4)
   You must have completed the first half of a graphic design program (AA, BA, BFA)
   You must be able to present a portfolio of your work
   You must be enrolled in college in an internship or independent study to receive college
     credit
   You must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US
   You must be living in Seattle-area during the course of the internship

Internship



The KOMO Newsradio Internship is designed to give college students a broad look at a
working radio newsroom, and offers experience in four distinct areas: Writing, Editing,
Field Work (including General, Business, and Specialty Reporting), and Sports.



Two Internship positions per quarter:
Spring Quarter – March 1 through June 1
Summer Quarter – June 1 through September 1
Fall Quarter – September 1 through December 1
Winter Quarter – December 1 through March 1
*NOTE: Since all school schedules aren’t the same, there is a degree of flexibility.
Please specify your needs in your cover letter.

Minimum requirement: 3 days/week, 5 hours/day
Internships are unpaid, and applicants must receive college credit to qualify

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an interest in a news career. You are responsible, proactive, a self-starter, have
a positive attitude, and have strong communication and writing skills. You also posses
the ability to follow instructions thoroughly, and are able to work well alone and in group
settings. Must be enrolled in college, and able to earn college credit for entire quarter.


DESCRIPTION:
As an Intern for KOMO Newsradio, you’ll spend time working alongside Editors,
Reporters, and Sportscasters. You’ll learn writing techniques that are unique to radio,
digital audio production and editing, experience work outside the station in news and
sports settings, and receive an introduction to on-air work. KOMO Newsradio is a unique
setting in that its format is all-news, 24 hours a day. As an Intern, you understand that this
is different from the classroom setting in that there is not constant instruction; you are
responsible for gleaning what you can out of your time with KOMO Newsradio. This
position requires schedule flexibility, as well as a person who can adapt to changes
quickly. On a daily basis, Interns are assigned to different departments, based on that
day’s needs. This means hours/workdays can vary, and can include weekends.

                       Internship Description & Performance Standards

                                     Radio Promotion Intern

Description: Intern to the Promotions Department for STAR 101.5, 570 KVI and KOMO
Newsradio Stations. Assist in the daily activities of the promotion department. Areas learned
include: marketing of radio stations and its clients/listeners, promotion creation, event and contest
coordination, press and public relations, and an introduction to all aspects of radio broadcasting.

Qualifications: Promotions/marketing or career interests or other interest in the
Communications Field. Responsible, positive attitude, directed, dependable, self- starter, strong
communication & writing skills.

Requirements: Minimum of 20 hours per week up to 30 hours per week. This is an unpaid
internship and you must be enrolled in college/university and receive credit toward graduation for
hours worked. Must also be approved by our insurance company to drive the station vehicles.

Positions Available: 2 each quarter- Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall.

Coordinating promotions, press and public relations, and an introduction to all aspects of radio
broadcasting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Sales/Business career interests. Responsible, positive attitude, self-directed, dependable, self-
starter, strong communication & writing skills. Must be enrolled in college and receive college
credits toward graduation for hours worked. Requirements: Minimum of 20 hours per week, M-F,
between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

             You will work with the Promotion Specialist, Account Executives and

OVERVIEW
                    Intern to KOMO TV’s sales department. Assist in the daily
                    activities of the sales department – Local Sales &National Sales.
                    Areas include, but are not limited to, reporting spot times and
                    ratings delivered to clients, preparing sales materials & proposal
                    elements, assisting in developing quarterly sales functions and
                    order-entry and confirmation. May also include assisting Sales
                    Promotion Specialist with client campaigns.

GOALS OF INTERNSHIP
                 Exposure to day-to-day operations of television station;
                   specifically sales, traffic, and programming departments
                 Opportunity to establish relationships with sales professionals
                 Understanding of sales/client relationships and how to sell
                   television
                 Ability to learn promotion and event coordination as it relates
                   to sales
                 Work with Master Control to duplicate spots and special
                   segments for clients
                 Gain administrative experience such as answering department
                   phone and organizing sales materials

QUALIFICATIONS      Strong communication and writing skills, responsible, takes
                    initiative, positive attitude, sales/advertising career interests.
           Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and valid driver’s license
           preferred. Must be enrolled as a junior or senior in college and
           receive college credit for hours worked. Minimum 20 hours per
           week required, M-F between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. One
           internship available per quarter (fall/winter/spring/summer)
