Job Title:       Marketing Manager
Supervisor:      President

General Summary: Responsible for the planning and implementation of marketing, communications and PR
initiatives for the three offices (Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Asheville), as well as ensuring a positive image and
consistency of message through all internal and external communications. Strong graphic design and PR
capabilities are essential, combined with high attention to detail and ability to prioritize/manage multiple tasks
simultaneously while keeping superiors and peers updated on progress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Marketing
 Work with the president to set long- and short – term priorities for the foundation’s marketing and
   public relations activities
 Develop, implement and monitor annual department budget
 Prepare/distribute chapter marketing and internet updates regularly and/or special reports as needed


   Create and manage the copywriting, design and printing of all collateral using PC-based Adobe Creative Suite
   Perform updates for the chapter website including graphic and text elements
   Consistently monitor and update social networking sites (Facebook/Twitter)
   Write and design electronic communications including updates and e-mail blasts (Constant Contact)
   Create/maintain a crisis communications plan; training staff, board, and volunteers on implementation

Public Relations

   Prepare and distribute news releases, feature articles, PSAs and arrange interviews
   Cultivate media relationships in all three media markets while maintaining a database of media contacts
   Create and revise materials for media kits customized to respective media market
   Track, manage and maintain video and news clipping library for each of the three media markets


 Monitor all brand, trademark usage and placement in all collateral and electronic forms
 Review all collateral, including external event materials, for compliance with national style guidelines


 Develop the branding of cause-related marketing programs, local & national corporate partnerships and
  fundraising programs in concert with the development department
 Oversee speakers bureau activities including recruitment, training and development of presentation materials
 Conduct annual surveys to determine satisfaction of staff, board, volunteers and donors
 Maintain internal and external communications calendars

 Assist with special events as necessary
 Attend training and educational seminars and conferences as appropriate
 Create office forms and additional documents as needed for other departments
 Stay up to date on current technology trends, monitor internal technology issues and make recommendations as
  to the maintenance of programs and systems
 Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the President

The incumbent will further be expected to comply with a series of position goals

Required Education and Experience:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, PR or other related field (equivalent
work experience may be substituted). 3-5 years experience in marketing, communication or non-profit (or
comparable) organizations is preferred. Strong graphic design and communications/PR skills are vital.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, e-mail, Internet, social networking (Facebook, Twitter, Constant
  Contact) and other typical office applications.
 Mastery of, and demonstrated experience with, Adobe Creative Suite including: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe
  InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and knowledge of web-based programming.
 Knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, PR practices, specifically media relations, preferred.
 Strong organizational skills, prioritization and multi-tasking ability.
 Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation and public speaking skills.
 Ability to deal with sensitive materials and information, demonstrating a high level of trust and respect for
  client confidentiality.
 Ability to handle rapid change and difficult situations with maturity, professionalism, humor, empathy and
  flexibility. Team player.
 Ability to drive to events, meetings, planning sessions and other Make-A-Wish proceedings and to access
  reliable transportation for long drives.
 Ability to maintain flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
