Assesses cognitive, academic, communication, motor & social skills in naturally occurring contexts. (Adapted from M. Falvey, California State University, Los Angeles) HOW TO… Develop a Discrepancy Analysis/Ecological Inventory: 1. Divide curriculum into subjects/domains. 2. Delineate environments that are available to peers (i.e., students without disabilities). 3. Delineate sub-environments in each environment, if applicable. 4. Delineate activity within each sub-environment. 5. Delineate specific skills expected or required to participate in each activity task steps. 6. Observe and record student performance (+/-). 7. Conduct discrepancy analysis of skills where student's performance is different from that of peers (i.e., incorrect). In other words, describe what student is having trouble with and analyze problem (e.g., learning style, physical or cognitive issue) 8. If student is unable to perform any skills, refer to these options to decide what to do: • teach skill to student • develop adaptation to teach skill to student • teach student to perform a related skill.
