 Enterprise Inventory 8.9

Introduction
PeopleSoft Inventory supports multiple materials management functions. In many companies,
such functions are handled by separate, standalone systems. By incorporating these functions into
a single database, PeopleSoft Inventory can reduce redundant data and thereby reduce the
associated maintenance, reconciliation, and data integrity problems. Even though PeopleSoft
Inventory is designed to store large quantities of data to support many functions, you can control
the amount of data that you access at any given time by selecting only the information that you
need. PeopleSoft Inventory provides you with standard features, such as shipments, stocking,
transfers, adjustments, replenishment, and physical accounting.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
• Define inventory facility structure.
• Define inventory items.
• Maintain containers.
• Stock material (Putaway).
• Discuss cross docking.
• Setup demand fulfillment options.
• Create material stock requests.
• Reserve inventory.
• Pick inventory.
• Ship inventory.
• Define transaction accounting rules
• Replenish inventory
• Transfer stock
• Count inventory stock
• Maintain par locations
• Maintain inventory
• Run reports

Replenishing Inventory
In any business unit, inventory levels must be maintained to meet the constant demand. In
addition, the stocking and overhead costs must be kept as low as possible.

In this lesson, you will learn how to maintain appropriate inventory stock levels by using the
PeopleSoft Inventory system.

Upon completion of this lesson you will be able to:
• Enter business unit replenishment options.
• Enter item replenishment attributes.
• Calculate replenishment requests.
• Create replenishment requests.
• View replenishment requests.

Entering Business Unit Replenishment Options
An effective inventory business unit must consistently meet customer demand and at the same
time keep overhead and storage costs low. The PeopleSoft Inventory system provides tools that
enable you to calculate optimal stock quantities and reorder points for items, based on historical
demand information.

In addition to reorder point replenishment, which is created in response to set stock levels,
PeopleSoft can generate ad hoc replenishment requisitions. An ad hoc requisition is a request
designed to fill a stock shortage in response to a specific order. Ad hoc requisitions can also be
used for items that a business unit supplies but does not stock.

In this topic, you learn to set business unit replenishment options.

You have added a new business unit to your company. You need to enter the replenishment
options for the business unit in PeopleSoft Inventory.

Entering Item Replenishment Attributes
When the available stock goes below the established reorder point levels, the PeopleSoft
Inventory system generates a reorder point replenishment requisition for the selected item. The
quantity requested is based on the reorder quantity you specify in PeopleSoft Inventory. If you do
not specify the reorder quantity, the PeopleSoft Inventory system can automatically calculate
reorder points. To avoid overstocking, PeopleSoft can ensure that the reorder quantity does not
exceed the maximum quantity defined for that item.

In this topic, you learn to set item replenishment attributes. You need to specify the replenishment
attributes, such as the reorder point, reorder quantity, and safety stock for the laptop computers in
PeopleSoft Inventory.

Calculating Replenishment Requests
An effective inventory business unit must consistently meet demand and at the same time keep
overhead and storage costs low. As soon as you anticipate a shortage of stock, you need to
generate inventory replenishment requests. This enables you to maintain an optimal level of
inventory in a business unit. Inventory levels are also referred to as on-hand quantity balances.

Before you run the replenishment options process, you must establish item replenishment
attributes on the Setup Item Replenishment page, either manually or through the replenishment
parameters process. This process computes item replenishment parameters, such as the reorder
point, the safety stock, and the economic order quantity (EOQ).

In this topic, you learn to calculate replenishment requests in PeopleSoft Inventory. You need to
compute item replenishment parameters, such as the reorder point, the safety stock, and the
economic order quantity (EOQ). To do this, you run the replenishment options process to
calculate a replenishment requisition for this item.

Creating Replenishment Requests
You need to generate inventory replenishment requests as soon as you anticipate a shortage of
stock in a business unit. This enables you to maintain an optimal level of inventory in a business
unit. Inventory levels are also referred to as on-hand quantity balances.

To generate replenishment requests, you need to run the replenishment options process. This
process compares the available on-hand quantity and on-order quantity of each item in a business
unit with the replenishment point set for that item. If the process determines that the quantity of
an item is below its reorder point, a replenishment request for the item is generated using the
material reservations process.

In this topic, you learn how to run the replenishment options process to be able to create
inventory replenishment requests.

   Step Action
   5. A Run Control ID is an identifier that, when paired with your User ID, uniquely
identifies the process you are running. The Run Control ID defines parameters that
are used when a process is run. This ensures that when a process runs in the
background, the system does not prompt you for additional values.
Enter the desired information into the Run Control ID field. Enter
             "REPLENISH01".
   6. Click the Add button.

   7. Use the Create Replenishment Reqs(AE) page to enter the request parameters.
These parameters will be used to define the processing rules and data to be
included when the process is run.

Viewing Replenishment Requests
PeopleSoft Inventory enables you to generate two types of replenishment requests, reorder point
and ad hoc. A reorder point replenishment request is generated when the available stock for a
selected item goes below the established reorder point levels. An ad hoc replenishment requisition
is created for an item when its quantity on hand is insufficient and the material reservations
process is run. This requisition is specifically intended to fill a stock shortage in response to a
specific order,

It is necessary to view the status of replenishment requests and ensure that the requested items are
ready to be dispatched to the appropriate business units. This will help you maintain optimum
inventory levels and minimize backorders and overhead costs.

In this topic, you will learn to view replenishment requests in PeopleSoft Inventory.
