TITLE:                          Sport and Recreation Officer

CLASSIFICATION:                 Level 2


AGREEMENT:                     Association for the Blind of Western Australia Collective
                               Workplace Agreement 2008 – 2011



RESPONSIBLE TO:                 Senior Sport and Recreation Officer



POSITIONS UNDER DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY:                           Nil




KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (OUTCOME):


Under the direction of the Senior Sport and Recreation Officer, to assist clients to
undertake a range of centre and community based sport and recreation activities
and gymnasium training, to facilitate and maintain physical, cognitive and social
functioning.

KEY RESULTS AREAS (OUTPUTS):

1.    Responsible for running centre and community based recreation activates.

2.    Provide effective instructions and support to clients to facilitate skill
      development and participation in their chosen sport, recreation activity and
      gymnasium training.
3.    Adapt techniques, equipment and activities, as necessary, to meet individual
      client’s needs.
4.    Clean and maintain equipment in a safe working order and report any worn or
      unsafe equipment to the Senior Recreation Officer.
5.    Assist with storage and lease of equipment.
6.    Assist in fee collection.
7.    Maintain accurate documentation, client records on the Association’s
      computerised client management system.
8.    Provide relevant training and support to volunteers and students.
9.    Under the direction of the Senior Leisure Officer, ensure that all relevant
      Confident Living Program and ABWA’s policies, Aged care and Disability
      Access and Inclusion, Occupational Safety and Health and relevant
      Legislative Acts are adhered to.
10. Report to the Senior Recreation Officer any difficulties or concerns which may
    impact on the safe and effective running of the centre and community based
    program on a day to day basis.
11. Become familiar with emergency procedures on the bus and within the centre
    to ensure the safety of clients, volunteer and staff.
12. Provide administrative support to the Senior Recreation Officer as required.
13. Other duties as required.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS (SELECTION CRITERIA)



Essential
 1.     Recognised post secondary qualification in sport and/or recreation.
 2.     Knowledge of the impact of disability on the life of a person with a disability
        and his/her family.
 3.     Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
 4.     Evidence of formal gymnasium training through recognised authority.
 5.     Ability to demonstrate and assist client in safe and correct use of gym
        equipment.
 6.     Experience in aquatic and recreation activities and gym supervisory
        experience.
 7.     Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment.
 8.     Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment to the philosophy, objectives
        and mission statement of the Association.
 9.     Ability to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the service.
 10.    Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
 11.    “C” class drivers licence



Desirable

 1.    Experience in working with seniors and people with a disability.
