Mission
LiveWire Logic, Inc.
LiveWire LogicTM, Inc. is committed to revolutionizing Intemet-based customer support, sales, and marketing with intelligent, lifelike conversational software agents that exploit state-of-the-art artificial intelligencetechnologies. Intelligent Virtual Agents for e-Business LiveWire Logic's first generation of products addresses a broad range of customer service problems. LiveWire delivers engaging intelligentconversational agents that interact one-on-one with customers over the Internet. These lifelike animated characters converse with customers to solve their problems in a timely, personalized manner. Initially targeting customer service, LiveWire's intelligentagents will offer unprecedented savings in operating costs to online businesses. By responding to large volume of questions that are currently addressed by call centers and email, LiveWire's agents will provide a powerful defense against customer inquiry overload. By off-loadingcall center services onto LiveWire's interactive intelligentagents, client companies will obtain significant savings in person hours spent fielding telephone and email inquiries. Customers will get the answers they need, when they need them. Market Opportunity E-commerce spending is large and growing, and customer support is quickly becoming the differentiating factor in the competition for on-line customers. Because of the increasing importance of attracting new customers, turning them into repeat customers, and buildingbrand loyalty, e-commerce sites are being forced to provide increasingly higher levels of customer service. As the volume of customers increases and the range of products and services offered online grows, e-commerce sites must respond to the overwhelming demand for customer support. Because hiring sufficient personnel for call centers and email response is prohibitively expensive, effective customer relationship management (CRM) software is becoming essential. AMR Research predicts the CRM market will grow from $4.45 billionin 1999 to $21.8 billionin 2003. As AMR Research's David Caruso sums it up, "E-businesses have realized that timely, qualitycustomer service is essentia/to their success. It's all about deliveringTLC--Intemet style. Everybodyis scrambling to grab the customer and not let them go." In the fierce competitionof ecommerce, only the firms with the best customer service will survive. liveWire is targeting the rapidly expanding eCRM market by providing intelligent, lifelike conversational agents that will play a critical role in augmenting customer service personnel. Because these agents will define a new standard for quality customer service, they will become indispensablefor high volume e-commerce sites. Competitive Advantage
LiveWire's conversational agents are uniquely innovative. Competitors'approaches employ nonscalable technologies that require labor-intensive customization. They attempt to solve customers' problems in isolation but often produce frustrating, ineffective interactions. In contrast, LiveWire utilizes the world's most advanced artificial intelligencetechnologiesin its selfcustomizing agents. They engage customers in productive dialogues, they are inexpensive to install, and they integrate seamlessly with online chat-based customer support, thereby guaranteeing quality customer service.

Founders
'
CEO: For the past six years, Dr. James Lester, a tenured professor of Computer Science at North Carolina State University, has directed the lntelliMedia Initiative, a large-scale multidisciplinary research team he founded in 1994. With $2.5 million in funding from the National Science Foundation and other public and private sources, IntelliMedia designs, implements, and empirically evaluates intelligent multimedia systems combining artificial intelligence and high-end, real-time animation. Lester brings 15 years experience in artificial intelligence to LiveWire. He holds a BA, MSCS, and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin, where his doctoral research in artificial intelligence focused on natural language processing and computational linguistics. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he also holds a BA in History from Baylor University. Lester and his IntelliMedia team pioneered the creation of lifelike agents that provide real-time problem-solving advice for intelligent educational software. He is the winner of a Career Award from the National Science Foundation, the highest award given by NSF to outstanding young professors. He has lectured internationally on intelligent multimedia systems and intelligent virtual agents. His research has been recognized with the Best Paper Award at the 1997 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education and the Best Paper Award at the 1999 ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. He serves as Program Chair for the 2001 ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. VP of Engineering: Bradford Mott has 15 years' experience in systems software design and development. A member of Phi Kappa Phi, Brad is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at NC State. He holds a BS in Computer Science, a BS in Computer Engineering, and an MCS in Computer Science, all from NC State. Mott is experienced in creating network protocol analysis and verification tools, web site performance analysis, and developing customer sales and support systems. He has been a software engineer at IBM, Nortel, and Analyst International Corp. Throughout his career he has participated in all phases of software development, ranging from specification and design to implementation, testing, fielding, and maintenance. He has also published original research in requirements analysis in the software engineering field. In addition, Mott has led several complex open-source projects, one of which has produced a popular multiplatform console emulator with a user base numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Director of Advanced Technology: Luke Zettlemoyer was recognized earlier this year as the outstanding male undergraduate computer science student in the country in a national competition sponsored by the Computing Research Association. He has published extensively on his research on user interface agents. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Mu Epsilon, and Upsilon Phi Epsilon, Zettlemoyer holds a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Applied Mathematics from NC State. He has been a software development intern at Ganymede Software, where he contributed to the development of the Chariot network testing product. He has also interned at the Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratory in Cambridge, MA, where he contributed to the design and implementation of an intelligent collaborative software agent. In addition, he designed a programming-by-example system in collaboration with scientists at the MIT Media Lab. Zettlemoyer was named to the 2000 USA Today All-USA Academic Team. VP of Creative Development: Patrick FitzGerald has 10 years experience in animation and multimedia. FitzGerald holds a BA in Advertising from Southern Methodist University, and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. A faculty member in NC State University's internationally recognized School of Design, FitzGerald has directed numerous multimedia projects and has managed large-scale interactive video productions. Prior to joining the faculty of NC State, he served as an instructor, artist, and manager at the Kodak Center for Creative Imaging in Camden, Maine. 5500 McNeely Drive, Suite 102, Raleigh, NC 27612 Voice: (919) 510-6678 Fax: (919) 510-6679 info@livewirelogic.com www.livewirelogic.com
