Course Fact Sheet Course Title PHOTOGRAPHY GCSE EV The aims of this course are to:- Photography covers a broad area and is frequently used to document and record ideas and images for use in fine art as well as the graphic disciplines. Students will gain an understanding of a range of work, from contemporary practice, past practice and different cultures, so that they are able to demonstrate an understanding of continuity and change in photography. What will I study on this course? . The uses of light as the most important element in photography. . View points, composition, depth of field. . Dark room techniques involving the recognition of appropriate paper types, developing and printing, emulsions, exposures, tone and contrast. . Manipulation of the image, either film or digital format, through electronic and mechanical means including laser, computer, scanners and photocopiers. Who is this course for and how long it will last? Anyone with an interest in the subject. The course runs for 30 weeks on one evening 6.30-8.30pm. What do I need to get on the course? No prior photography qualifications are needed but experience of taking photographs as a leisure pursuit would be appropriate. How is the course assessed? Coursework and a final project. Unit 1 is drawn from coursework projects completed with support from the tutor. Unit 2 is a 10 hour time constrained project set by the awarding body. Ideas for the project are developed with tutor support but all work is carried out by the student unaided. During the course you will experience a combination of teaching and learning styles as follows:- Seminars and practical studio workshops. What qualification could I achieve? GCSE Art & Design: Photography What can I do after the course? Progress to Access to Art & Design or Foundation Degree in Applied Photography Further details (e.g. ALS/Personal Expenditure) You will need to pay for any film, printing paper and digital prints. All other materials and equipment are provided. It is desirable that students have their own cameras, although this equipment is available during taught sessions.
