Golf for Heart promises to be best ever
Blue Springs, Lake Joseph, Glen Abbey and DiamondBack golf clubs. Funds raised at the tournament go to the Huntsville chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Registration is $200 per player, which includes a $50 tax receipt. The cost to ClubLink members who wish to play in the tournament is $135. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and a plated three-course dinner, live entertainment, a live and silent auction and, of course, prizes. The Early Bird draw, for those who entered by June 1, was won by Allan Johnstone from Barrie, who receives an RBC Canadian Open gift package. The four-person Texas-format scramble (whereby at least four drives of each member of the team must be used during the course of the round), kicks off with registration and lunch at 11 a.m. A shotgun start follows at 12:30 p.m. The designated holes are: • Number 3 – $10,000 (RBC); • Number 7 – Beat the pro (Trevor Marko); • Number 9 – Closest to the loin (Big Daddy’s Meats); • Number 10 – Closest to the beer fridge or keg • Number 11– Beat the car salesman (Mike Henwood); • Number 15 – Closest to the canoe (Algonquin Outfitters). For $20, participants will be able to purchase a golfer’s package at the time of registration. The package will include five raffle tickets (if sold separately tickets are 10 for $10), one mulligan, one string, one entry to beat the pro, one entry to the putting contest and a free pass to the forward tees on hole number one. Last year’s master of ceremonies, Tim Weston, will again conduct the proceedings and men’s freestyle-ski aerialist and Canadian Olympian Jeff Bean will be on hand to sign autographs. Registration forms are available at RBC on Main Street, the Centennial Centre and Motivations Fitness. Pledge sheets are also available for those wishing to collect additional donations. For the first time the sixth annual Golf for Heart tournament event will be held at the Grandview Golf Club, Mark O’Meara course, and the change of venue has created a buzz in the community. Taking place on Monday, Aug. 10, this year’s event is shaping up to be the best ever, with more prizes, great food and some interesting challenges being worked on by the Golf for Heart committee. Clublink Corporation has donated a Gold Resort Certificate Package, with a retail value of $7,920, which will go toward the silent auction. The package includes: certificates for two nights’ accommodation for four (based on double occupancy) at a Delta Muskoka resort, a foursome valid at Rocky Crest Golf Club, a foursome at Grandview Golf Club’s Mark O’Meara course, and a foursome at the Lake Joseph Golf Club.
