“JUST A MINUTE”
RUNNING OUT THE STRING
Just A Minute – Suddenly it’s news that President Obama appears to have misjudged the nation’s mood. His approval rating has fallen below 50 percent and we’ve never seen him defeated publically before. In one press conference he managed to lose the entire nation’s police force. Peggy Noonan, having given George Bush the back of her hand the last couple of years, has now got Mr. Obama in the cross-hairs. Let’s see how straight she shoots. She says: “His news conference the other night was … filibustery and spinny and [he] gave … answers that seemed aimed at … running out the clock. … More seriously, he didn’t seem to be telling the truth…” Hmmm. She defines the problem as the public mood has changed from ‘demanding change’. Other pundits say it’s a case of ‘fool me once – shame on you: fool me twice, shame on me!’ Jimmy Carter proved a majority of Americans don’t wish to be described as stricken by malaise: while even Abraham Lincoln knew you can’t fool all the people all the time. <> I’m Jack Buttram
