Dear Winery Owner; You have received this letter because we determined you own or operate a winery within Napa County. Currently, approximately two‐thirds of wine grapes grown in Napa County are located within a Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM) quarantine area. Wineries that receive grapes from any vineyard located within a quarantine area are required to have a compliance agreement to reduce the likelihood of spreading this pest. The Napa County Agricultural Commissioner has determined it is best to issue compliance agreements to all wineries within the county, since it is possible that the quarantine area will expand to other areas if additional LBAM are found or wineries may decide at some point during harvest to receive fruit produced in the quarantine area . By issuing compliance agreements now to all wineries we hope to minimize any disruption to winery operations during the busy harvest season. IMPORTANT – you will need the compliance agreement in order to receive and process wine grapes that have been grown in the quarantine area. The Agricultural Commissioner’s Office must issue a compliance agreement to each winery prior to that winery accepting any harvested winegrapes and other regulated plant material transported from the growing site. This is a tremendous undertaking and to be as efficient as possible we are issuing compliance agreements to all Napa County wineries via mail. In this letter we have attached a compliance agreement for your winery. We would appreciate if you read the document, sign and date the second page, and either fax it to us at (707)253‐4881, mail it to us at the address above or scan and e‐mail it to agcommissioner@co.napa.ca.us. Information about the status of Light Brown Apple Moth in Napa County is available at our website http://napacounty/GOV/Departments/26400/pests/lbam_comp_ag.asp. Additional information on compliance agreements for wineries will be posted as it becomes available. In addition, my staff and I can be contacted at (707) 253‐4357 or (877) 279‐2980 if you have questions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Sincerely, David R. Whitmer Napa County Agricultural Commissioner
