• The fastest growing industries are in Transportation Equipment Manufacturing which includes Aerospace Production. • Four of the top ten occupations by openings for postsecondary/vocational training are in the health care industry, with registered nurses projected to have the most openings of 11,811. • Of the over 31,000 Kansans projected to be employed as elementary, middle and secondary school teachers in 2014, 19,000 are expected to be elementary school teachers.

The South Central Region is projected to grow by the most (51,530 new jobs) and the fastest (15.7 percent). Kansas City is projected to be the largest region by employment with 497,700 jobs.
Approximately 26 percent of the statewide employment gains come from the Bachelor’s Degree and Above group.
Postsecondary education/vocational training accounts for 14 percent of statewide projected job gains.
Occupational Information
• On average, the wage for seven of the top ten occupations requiring a Bachelor’s degree or above is $30.18. The three teaching occupations are not reported as hourly wages, but have annual salaries. • The total employment for Kansas will grow from 1,422,070 in 2004 to 1,597,210 in 2014, an increase of 12.3 percent. • General and Operations Managers are expected to have the most total openings for jobs usually requiring a Bachelor’s or higher degree, plus work experience with 5,676. This occupation’s median wage from the 2007 Kansas Wage Survey was $33.29. • The statewide top ten fastest growing occupations have an average wage of $21.83. • On average, the wage for the top ten occupations requiring postsecondary education/vocational training is $15.45. • The Postsecondary Education/Vocational Training group is projected to grow the fastest of any educational group at 17.4 percent.
