Premise


As already said in the Report (3.2 pag.40) each partner, as expert, has used different ways
of expressing evaluations at national level. Since the international comparison has to be
made justapposing such evaluations, the first step to face, to develop a correct comparison,
is to homogenize these definitions. To this aim, the definitions individuated by the Work
Package leader, in drawing up the National report, have been used as a point of reference
for relating the different sentences used by the other partners, in their national reports, to
explain same concepts.
This is the reason why the experts’ evaluations expressed in each Italian case study areas
are reported here, in the first place. And then, one after the other, the templates containing
the evaluations as expressed by the experts of each Country, interfaced with abbreviations,
that refer them to the corresponding similar wider problem or worth fields detected by the
italian partner. The numbers in the abbreviations correspond to the order in the “Similar”
list of problems or worths detected by italian experts; if the evaluation is not present in
such list, the reference can be the residents’ list.
The results at national level, in each Country, put in evidence the problems and worths that
have been detected by experts and residents in all the case study areas, and therefore can
be considered as similar issues characterizing them. Besides the shared problems, or
worths, also the peculiar ones, characterizing only some of these case study areas, have
been listed. It has been already said in 2.1 Experts’ analysis, page 23, how the ranking has
been made for the Italian case areas; it is necessary to spend few words to say which
method has been used to make such ranking for the other Countries. For ranking the
problems, or worths, which are shared by the same quantity of case study areas, the
number of various features characterizing each specific problem has been used as
parameter. The higher is the number of features, the higher is the ranking.

Problems detected by the residents


Italy
The methodology asked for groups of people, residents in the cases study areas, of
different age ranges, to be involved in the workshop or in the interviews. The aim was to
allow the comparison among different “age” opinions and therefore to define common
problems’ and worths’ lists.
The way in which the dwellers expressed their assessments was very various.
Since the proposed methodology foresees the comparison between dwellers’ and users’
point of view, it is important to uniform the way in which the assessments are made. With
the help of the psychologists, who can interpret what people really mean with their words,
the participants’ remarks have been traced back to the specific topic of attractiveness.
Therefore the final “Problem list” is written using this “adjustment”.

dwellers’ assessments have been grouped in each problem field; therefore the
individuation and the meaning of each problem is made clearer.
The evaluations expressed by the residents of the case study areas are interfaced with
abbreviations, that refer to the corresponding “similar” worths in the overall worths listed
by the work package leader, as better explained at p. 4. The denominations of the problems
and worths, when not decided by the partners, have been made similar to the experts’
definitions for facilitating the future comparison.
