Master of arts in teaching program – Coming this fall!
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is one of several routes to teacher certification in Maryland. The MAT program is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree or higher with sufficient content discipline preparation who seek to become outstanding teachers and leaders in the 21st-century classroom. In addition to meeting the graduate school’s general admission requirements, students must • Present an official transcript of previous coursework. • Have completed a major in the content area with a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the major. Alternatively, and subject to UMUC approval, students must have completed 36 credits in contentrelated courses with a minimum 3.0 GPA. • Have earned Maryland-specified qualifying scores on either the ACT, GRE, SAT, or Praxis I exams. Applicants who need to take the Praxis I exams may enroll in UMUC’s UCSP 650 Praxis I preparation course. • Submit a personal essay. • Complete a telephone interview, which will be scheduled once the transcript evaluation has been completed. A new scholarship program is available to MAT students. For more information, visit www.umuc.edu/matscholar.

Join the Rapidly Expanding Field of Criminal Justice Management
The field of criminal justice is expanding to include positions beyond the traditional roles of the police, courts, and corrections. Employers are actively seeking personnel trained in crime prevention, law enforcement, investigative forensics, crisis management, and more. To help meet this demand, UMUC is adding criminal justice management as a specialization under the MS in management starting in fall 2009. With an emphasis on leadership, management, and cross-agency collaboration, the criminal justice management specialization curriculum will provide students with an understanding of the entire criminal justice system and management of organizations within that system. A certificate in Criminal Justice Management will also be offered.

Quick Facts
ordering Your Books UMUC uses MBS Direct to allow students all over the world to order all of their textbooks online. Access the MBS Direct Web site for more information at http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net. academic Probation Policy While enrolled in the graduate school, you are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. You will be placed on academic probation if your GPA falls below a 3.0. If you receive a grade of F, you must repeat the course in your next session of enrollment and earn an A or B. If you do not repeat the course, you will be academically dismissed. You are not permitted to carry a grade of F on your graduate record. If you earn a grade of C, you MUST ensure that your GPA is at least a 3.0 at the completion of your next semester of enrollment. To meet this requirement, we suggest that you repeat the course in which you received a C immediately. If you decide to take a different course and do not earn an A, you will
be academically dismissed from the graduate school. An academic dismissal is final and may not be appealed. Paying for Your Courses Don’t forget to make your tuition payment! Remember, tuition is due in full at the time of registration. You can make your payment online through MyUMUC using your Visa, American Express, Discover, or MasterCard.
