STUDENT ALUMNI NEWSLETTER
Dear Friends, It is my belief that students such as yourselves who served in our Center are very special, and that you will have great influence on others you meet throughout your lives both professionally and non-professionally. You’ll automatically leave a lasting “imprint” with them as you have with us; and this will play a major part in shaping your career and character throughout life. I’m pleased to announce the launch of our new Student Alumni Newsletter entitled, “Footprints”, through which you will be able to share your work and experiences with others, develop professional networks, identify leadership and mentoring opportunities and much more. It will be exciting to see the publication develop. This inaugural issue contains a picture collage from our files of a small number of past students, a sampling of the updates we are already receiving from student alumni, and some great local photos and news about women making a difference. As you read through the newsletter I hope it will be a springboard for your input back to us for upcoming issues. I encourage you to send your comments, stories, and suggestions for the Newsletter to Gail Rome, Editor (grome@tulane.edu). Best wishes, Jeanette H. Magnus, MD

Snow in the Big Easy !!
News from Molly Flint:
I have been studying to complete a one year, second degree accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Arkansas State University. I will graduate August 7, 2009. I have been placed the Chancellor's List (must have at least a 3.8 GPA) and have recently been asked to join Sigma Theta Tau, the International Nursing Honor Society. Things are going well. This has been a great learning experience in many ways.

The newsletter is a great idea. Networking contacts would be a nice addition. I am an intern this year in General Surgery residency at George Washington Medical Center. It’s a little busy, but I am enjoying it.

Rachel Breulin
Rachel Breulin, a UNO anthropology instructor and writing expert, recognized a need at John McDonogh Senior High in New Orleans to encourage students to write. She and her partner Abram Himelstein designed an after school creative writing program for a limited number of the school’s 7th grade students entitled the “Neighborhood Story Project”. The project produced a series of engaging and compelling books written by the students in their own words about their neighborhoods in the post-Katrina environment. The books received national attention and quickly went into full -scale publication. Students are compensated for their work. Learn more about their program on their website: wwwneighborhoodstoryproject.org.

The SBP has erected 170 homes to date with the help of construction professionals in the community. Liz was recently honored nationally for her work with the Project as CNN “Hero of the Year”. The award was presented in a special national television event on CNN. Liz is following her passion and invites others to join her in the rebuilding effort.
