The Cub’s Den June 2009 Newsletter Our month began with our goodbyes to the 2009 Cub’s Den Graduates. Their performance was spectacular, and the teachers were very proud of them. We’re going to miss them all! Now summer is here with loads of additional activities for everyone to enjoy. Our author this month, Marcus Pfister, took us on some undersea adventures with the Rainbow Fish and his friends. We learned about whales, sharks, the coral reef, and other ocean animals. On Red, White, and Blue Day the Preschool children made flags from painted popsicle sticks while the younger children made other festive art projects. The children are still cutting out red pictures, white pictures, and blue pictures from magazines to create our very own version of the American Flag. A lot of work has gone into our enormous flag already but we’re still working on it. When we’re all done it’s going to look great! On Veggie Day we snacked on cucumbers with dip and celery with peanut butter. The children were so excited to eat outside for Picnic Day. We carried tables and chairs out to the play yard for lunch and snack. Since it was so nice outside we stayed out most of the day. We honored our Dads by serving them donuts, coffee & juice in the morning. Each child presented their father with a picture and a card. Pink Day was particularly fun; it was great of everyone to be dressed in pink (even the boys) in honor of cancer survivors. Everyone made “Perfectly Pink Pictures” and “Perfectly Pink Paintings.” They learned to make their own pink paint (red paint and white paint), used pink chalk outside, played pass the pink pig, find pink things in the classroom and enjoyed pink milk for lunch. The children looked fabulous with their sunglasses on for Sunglass Day! Camera Day was also a special day because it gave each child the opportunity to use the Cub’s Den’s camera to take pictures. We will be sharing their photographs with you very soon. The tadpoles that Miss Deborah brought to class matured into tiny frogs so we released them near the Penn State water fountain. It was a wonderful lesson for all in the lifecycles of nature. Next month the author will be Margret Wise Brown and she will be bringing us many more exciting adventures. We will also be having a few water days so don’t forget your child’s swimsuit, towel, and water shoes! Thank you for sharing your child with us! Miss Heather, Miss Darla, and Miss Deborah
