BEd (Hons) HOME ECONOMICS WITH FOOD STUDIES

OBJECTIVES

This programme is for in-service secondary school teachers of Home Economics
involved primarily in the teaching of Food and Nutrition/Food studies. In order to provide
quality education, teachers need a good mastery of their subject area as well as various
teaching strategies. Hence, this programme builds on the knowledge and skills developed
during the Teacher’s Diploma course, imparting practising teachers in a rapidly changing
society, with further skills and knowledge in nutrition, food science, consumer studies
and pedagogy. The programme also provides adequate background for specialisation for
further studies/research at postgraduate level both locally and overseas.
