Azim Premji University has a clear social purpose- to facilitate a just, humane, equitable and sustainable
society. For this purpose, the institution (established under the Government of Karnataka’s Azim Premji
University Act, 2010) will offer teaching programs and conduct research in the fields of Education and
Development. The objective is to foster a talent pool of change leaders who will make a real difference
to society and create relevant, useful knowledge.

Located in Bangalore, India, we commence in July 2011 with three Masters programs in Education,
Development, and Teacher Education. Our aim is to build the University into an outstanding place of
learning and knowledge creation. Anchored in this promise, the institution will offer an exciting team
environment with a focus on research and breakthrough inter-disciplinary work. The University will also
be significantly engaged in continuing education and capacity building of existing field practitioners in
India.

The mission of the Azim Premji University is to:

     Develop outstanding, creative and socially committed professionals for the education and
      development sectors in India.
     Significantly invest in fundamental, applied and action research to expand the frontiers of
      knowledge in education and development and continuously stretch the boundaries of our
      thought and action.
     Contribute to strengthening existing professionals by creating high quality continuing education
      programmes and learning content.
     Significantly impact practice in the areas of education and development in the country.
     Serve as a national education and development resource centre.
     Present an authentic alternative voice for educational and social change in India.

In the pursuit of our mission, some of our guiding principles are: a culture of collegiate meritocracy with

synergy of theory and practice through our field network of institutions.


 Azim Premji University invites applications for leadership, faculty and administrative

We are deliberately building a multi-disciplinary faculty group from Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural
& Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and applied fields such as Engineering. For all positions, a deep
understanding of the Indian context, as well as a familiarity with global standards and best practices is
essential. Our leaders, faculty, and administrators, should value teaching, research, and practice. They
should also have an orientation towards working with the disadvantaged and a commitment to
professional excellence.

3. Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

Both academicians and practitioners with significant experience in any of the above areas are invited to
apply. Those who have just completed/are completing their M. Phil. /Ph.D. degrees are also invited to
apply for entry level positions. For Development faculty positions, India-specific experience, as well as an
international/comparative perspective is preferred.

    I.   Deans/ Professors/ Associate Professors

            Ph.D. or Ed.D./Outstanding practitioners with strong record of publications
            Good teaching record of between eight and ten years
            Established record of research
            Excellent communication abilities
            Value orientation with commitment to equity
            Proven administrative/leadership capabilities
            Strong references
            Proficiency in Kannada/Hindi/other Indian language

    II. Assistant Professors

            Ph.D./Ed.D./NET qualified
            Good teaching record of at least up to four years
            Good analytical/conceptual skills
            Strong references
            Proficiency in Kannada/Hindi/other Indian language

    III. Faculty Fellowship Program

            Ph.D. (just completed/ process of completion)
            Masters Degree with two years teaching/ field experience

4. Faculty Responsibilities
   Faculty members will have a variety of exciting opportunities to:

         Develop academic programs and courses independently
         Teach at the graduate and post-graduate levels
         Conduct research related to a range of subjects in education and development
         Mentor students and guide them through field experience

5. Faculty Fellowship

The Faculty Fellowship Program is an exciting opportunity for aspiring scholars that provides them a
platform to prepare for their roles as full-fledged faculty members. This will involve about two years of
intensive work/interaction with the Foundation field programs and/or the University teaching and
research programs. During this period, ‘faculty fellows’ will be closely mentored by University faculty
members.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

6. Specific Responsibilities

The Registrar will be responsible for overall academic administration, policy development and
secretariat services. He/she will manage Deputy Registrars specifically tasked with Finance, Student
Affairs, People, Admissions and Placement and Administration. He/she will explore innovative ways to
give direction to student life-cycle management. The Registrar will ensure the appropriate use of
resources and maintain and improve communication, operational and strategic activities within Student
and Academic Services. He/she will be the Secretary to the Board of Governors and Board of
Management.

Responsibilities of the Registrar’s position will be to:

        Provide executive support and assistance to the Vice Chancellor in developing operational plans
        to deliver services efficiently and effectively
        Provide executive support and assistance to the Vice Chancellor, Board of Governors, Board of
        Management in the operation of the Board, the conduct of Board of Governors, and the flow of
        items between committees and between Academic Board and University Council
        Provide leadership in the development of academic policy as well as its dissemination and
        implementation
        Exercise administrative oversight of the University’s course structure and course development
        framework.
        Contribute to the strategic direction of the University’s student support services and its
        operational plans to improve and enhance the total student experience.

        Perform the role of custodian of key student systems, including the Student Management
        System.
        Formulate, manage and control the planning and implementation of the operational plans for
        the area
        Establish and maintain effective communication relationships across the University, delivering
        quality information and feedback as required.
        Keep up to date with relevant higher education issues and research and prepare papers on
        current issues
