Ann Wright & Susan Hart Program Summary (back row l to r, Travis Cook, Brad Nelson, Win Burggraaff, Rob Quinn, Jennifer Deaver, Shawn Barnes; front row l to r, Jim Sharrock, Cindy Whaley, Bill Costello, Norm Benedict and Marcia Machens) Norm Benedict Looking Backward and Forward Norm greeted us this final time as president with lyrics from Gypsy then took time to acknowledge and thank each Metro Rotarian who had served along side him in leadership roles during his The Metro Memo THE NEWSLETTER FOR THE COLUMBIA METRO ROTARY CLUB VOLUME 17-2 WWW .COLUMBIAMETROROTARY.ORG JULY 8, 2009 year as president including fellow officers, board members, committee chairs and co-chairs. He also took the time to recognize each of the past presidents who are still active in our club—or in the case of Barb Hodges, Rotary South. Achievements Recalled and Celebrated: • Growth from 90 to 102 members which earned Metro the Presidential Citation Introduction of networking meetings once each quarter The approval of a District Simplified Grant which helped fund the Imagination Library Fundraising efforts which funded: war relief in Georgia, and the CPS Minority ACT program—among numerous meaningful projects. An award which came as a bit of a surprise: Best Cooperative Projects Award given by Rotary International and shared by the Columbia Rotary clubs. Norm has things to keep him busy once it is no longer his duty and delight to ring the bell calling us to order. He has a biography underway - 250 pages already written and he’s only reached the 7th grade. And he will take over responsibility for new member orientation meetings. It was obvious that Norm enjoyed his year as Metro Rotary president and the memory of it will continue to bring him joy! We clapped enthusiastically and in doing so affirmed that the feeling was mutual. • • Raffle Congratulations to Rob Bartel who was the lucky winner of a $40 gift card to Addison’s/Sophia’s courtesy of Jim Cherrington. • •
