                         STATISTICIAN (P2)

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body,
is charger with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration et sustainable
development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation
among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a
new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa,
capital city of Ethiopia.

In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to
strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation
of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens
of Member States for the post of Statistician.

Major duties and responsibilities

  1) Design, organize, and carry out the collection, evaluation and
     analysis of statistical data related with macroeconomics, from
     various sources including national and international institutions,

  2) Develop, implement and manage statistical database (s);

  3) Select methods of data compilation and validation, and appropriate
     methods for their processing and incorporation into databases;

  4) Update and revise the statistical database(s);

  5) Process and present       data       for   specified   research,   reports,
     publications, etc.;

  6) Provide econometric statistics as well as undertake qualitative,
     quantitative and econometric research and analysis;

  7) Promote sub-regional     collaboration        on   data   collection   and

  8) Collect and analyze data form the AU’s economic report;

  9) Prepare research reports, documents, and proposals;

  10)      Assist in statistical capacity building programs.

Education Qualifications and Experience Required

              a) The candidate of this post should hold a Bachelors
                 degree in the field of statistics, econometrics, or
                 statistics and applied economics, with at least 7 years
                 relevant work experience; or Masters degree with 5
                 years relevant work experience;

              b) Should have relevant work experience in these fields
                 as well qualitative and quantitative research methods;

              c) Has work experience in national or international

              d) Should be able to work in multicultural setting, in
                 good team spirit;

              e) Is fluent in either English or French and has working
                 knowledge the other;

              f) Has a good computer skill.

Age Requirement : Candidates must preferably be between 25-35 years

Tenure of Appointment : The Appointment will be made on a fixed term
contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months
will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will
be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$19,512.00 per annum
plus other related entitlements (e.g. post adjustment, housing allowance,
education allowance, etc.) in accordance with the Rules and Regulations
governing International Civil Servants of the Commission. These
allowances, however, do not apply to locally recruited candidates.
