Spelling Game
You need:
Rhyming Word Cards (copy, mount on tagboard, and cut out cards on pages 30 and 31; then cut each card in half along zigzag lines)
How to play:
Display the cards. Explain that each card shows a Unit 5 word or a word that rhymes with a spelling word. Distribute one card to each child. 1. Play music as children circulate around the room, without talking, to find the classmate whose word rhymes with theirs. (The Rhyming Word Cards will fit together like a puzzle.) 2. When a pair makes a match, they sit down together in a specified location. Play continues until all matches have been made. 3. Children take turns standing, displaying their cards, and reading and spelling their words.
