MINIATURE HORSE CLASSES

These classes are affiliated to the British Miniature Horse Society (BMHS), all classes will be run under their
rules. Only horses owned by a BMHS member may enter. Owners, exhibitors and handlers must be current
members and have paid the appropriate BMHS 2011 Showing Levy. Horses to report for measuring half
an hour prior to classes. Measurements for all classes (other than 51 – small) are as follows:-

         4 years old and over – 87 cms
         3 years old – 86 cms
         2 years old – 84 cms
         1 year old – 82 cms

Classes 74 to 79 ARE QUALIFIERS FOR THE ROYAL INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW 2011. The first
two prize winners to fourth place who have not already qualified from classes 47 to 52 will qualify.

Class 47     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Miniature Horse, 3 years old and over licensed stallion.
Class 48     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Miniature Horse, 3 years old and over mare or gelding.
Class 49     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Miniature Horse, 2 year old colt, filly or gelding.
Class 50     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Miniature Horse, Yearling colt, filly or gelding.
Class 51     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Small Miniature Horse, 4 years old and over, not to exceed 80 cms.
Class 52     ROYAL INTERNATIONAL Veteran Horse 8 years and over, licensed stallion, mare or gelding.

Championship - First and second prize winners from classes 47 to 52 qualify to compete for the
Championship. The winner qualifies for the Supreme Champion of Champions class at the BMHS
International Breed Show in September 2011.


Anglo & Part-Bred Arabs

Championship - First and second prize winners from classes 53 to 56 to compete for the Registered
Anglo or Part Bred Arab Championship.

This is a qualifying show for the UK AA/PB In Hand Championship 2011. The final will be held at The UK
AA/PB In Hand Championship Show to be held at The Hand Equestrian Centre, Clevedon, BRISTOL on
Saturday 11 June 2011.

Class 60      Two or three year old to exceed 128cm but not to exceed 148cm at
              maturity. Filly or gelding.
Class 61      Riding pony brood mare, not exceeding 148cm, with own foal at foot.
Class 62      Riding pony foal.
Class 63      Stallion, barren mare or gelding, four years old or over, not exceeding
              148cm

NPS / Laybalands Stud Show Pony In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship
A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered
pony in the Show Pony In Hand section (Classes 57 - 63)

  The Champion pony will receive the Romany River Perpetual Trophy, kindly donated
                              by Mr and Mrs D. Trodd.

placed registered Welsh Section A and B ponies in Class 88 will qualify for the NATIONAL
SUPREME BRYNSEION STUD FIRST RIDDEN CHAMPIONSHIP In the event of the 2 highest

NPS / Karel Doyle & Jasean Spraggett British Isles WHP Championship

The winning pony from each of the working hunter pony classes (excluding Leading Rein and First Ridden
classes) held at the show is eligible to go forward to this championship. There are no specific registration
criteria for ponies.
The owner need not be an NPS member for the pony/horse to enter this competition or to qualify for the final
but will have to become a Full member to enter the final.
The Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion ponies at each NPS Area show qualify for the
final at the NPS Summer Championship show. If the Supreme and/or Reserve Supreme have already
qualified then the qualification may go to the third place, but no lower.

GENERAL RULES

1.    The Committee will not be held responsible for any accident arising from any cause connected with this
      show and it will be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the Committee blameless and
      indemnify them from all legal proceedings.
2.    The decision of the judges and Committee is final.
3.    The Committee reserves the right to cancel any classes with less than 3 entries or to amalgamate
      classes if insufficient entries are received.
4.    In the event of the need for a referee judge that judge’s decision will be taken as final.
5.    If a pony exceeds the height limit on the day it may be transferred to another class at the discretion of
      the judge or Committee.
6.    Whips / canes in any class must not exceed 75cm (30”). If misused, in the opinion of the judge, an
      exhibitor may be sent out of the ring and may also be reported to the NPS Disciplinary Committee.
7.    It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to be ready for the start of their class, and to fully know and abide
      by the rules for the class they are entering.
8.    No ponies are to be plaited in Mountain & Moorland classes.
9.    No spurs are to be worn in ridden classes.
10.   All stallions and colts two years and over must be adequately bitted.
11.   All stallions and colts two years and over must hold a current stallion licence, unless otherwise
      governed by their individual Breed Society.

12.   Handlers of stallions and colts must have attained their 14 Birthday before 1 January of the current
      year.
13.   All ponies exhibited in the Mountain & Moorland classes must be registered with their appropriate Breed
      Society and entered in the name under which they have been registered.
14.   Riders of small breeds stallions (Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Welsh Sections A & B) must have

16.   All foals must be at least three weeks old on the day of the show and must accompany their dam into
      the ring and be led alongside the mare as much as possible.
17.   All dogs should be kept on leads while on the showground.
18.   EXHIBITORS SHOULD ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ADEQUATELY COVERED BY THIRD PARTY
      INSURANCE.
19.   Handlers of ponies in in-hand classes aged 14 years and under must wear correctly secured current
      British Standard skull caps / riding hats.
20.   All NPS affiliated classes will be run in accordance with current NPS rules.

The Champion and Reserve Champions in each of the Welsh In Hand sections may be eligible for a Welsh
Pony and Cob Society Medal. The Medal will be awarded to the highest placed registered pony in each
section not already in receipt of a Medal in the current year and shown by a paid up member of the Society.

QUALIFIER INFORMATION

NPS Mountain and Moorland Qualifying Rounds These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS.
Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part
breds are not eligible. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS
members and non-members but only ponies owned by adult NPS members are eligible to qualify for the final

of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 3rd-5 August 2011.
The highest placed pony owned by an NPS member in each class will qualify for the final. Where this
pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line which is owned by an NPS member and has not

already qualified receives the qualification. Qualification may go no lower than 3 place. Judges and/or
stewards will check membership cards prior to presenting the qualifying rosettes and cards. NPS Standard
members will be required to upgrade to Full membership to enter the final.
NPS/Rosettes Direct Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see
definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These
ponies, if owned by NPS members, are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer
Championship Show.

NPS Show Pony and Show Hunter Pony Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the
Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the NPS British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register or
Appendix, the GSB, the AHSB, the AASB or in the main body of their respective Mountain &
Moorland Stud Books. Part-Breds are not eligible for In Hand classes unless entered in the NPS
British Riding Pony Stud Book, Register or Appendix. Part-Breds are eligible for Ridden classes
provided they are registered in a Breed Society Stud Book. Ponies must be plaited. Qualifying rounds are
open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members but only ponies owned by adult NPS members
are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern

NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships
These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when
the owner of the champion pony is a member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the
rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the
judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card
is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the
required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal
Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a
member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first
Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in
the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show 3rd-
5th August 2011.

NPS/Fodder Solutions British Isles Area In Hand Championship
The winning pony from each of the in hand classes held at the show is eligible to go forward to this
championship. There are no specific registration criteria for ponies. The owner need not be an NPS member
for the pony/horse to enter this competition or to qualify for the final but will have to become a Full member
to enter the final. The Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion ponies at each NPS Area show
qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship show. If the Supreme and/or Reserve Supreme have
already qualified then the qualification may go to the third place, but no lower.

* As part of the WPCS Gelding Incentive Scheme the highest placed gelding in each of classes 2,4, 5, 9, 11,
12, 16, 18, 19, 23, 25 and 26 will be eligible for the Millcroft Stud Gelding Awards which will be judged
during the relevant section championships

Picton Novice Ridden
Open to pure bred registered M&M stallions, mares and geldings four years old or over.
A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1stJanuary in the current year, it has done any of the following:
i) Won an open NPS affiliated mixed M&M Ridden class
ii) Won a class at an Olympia, HOYS or RIHS qualifying round
iii) Qualified for HOYS or RIHS Ridden classes
iv) Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the NPS Summer Championship
show
v) Qualified for the M&M Ridden Championship final at Olympia in previous years
Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit.

Peasedown Intermediate Ridden
Open to pure bred registered M&M stallions, mares and geldings five years old or over

Ringside Stud Open Ridden
Open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings four years old or over.

The NPS/horsequest.co.uk M&M Ridden Grand Prix
Rider any age except stallions (see NPS rules). Ponies may be shown in any suitable bridle. The highest
placed pony, owned by an NPS member, of each individual breed in each class goes forward to the final at
the Autumn Festival. The highest placed pony, owned by an NPS member, in each class goes forward to a
championship at this Show. The winner of this championship also qualifies for the NPS/M&M Ridden
Champion of Champions at the NPS Autumn Festival . Where this pony has already qualified the Reserve
pony receives the qualification if it has not already qualified. Qualification to go no lower than Reserve.

NPS /Area XI
Classes may be amalgamated. Ponies eligible for the Championship at the show are the first and second
prize winners from all the In Hand Show Pony classes for registered ponies not to exceed 148cm at
maturity. The Champion and Reserve Champion go forward to the final at the NPS Summer Championship
Show.

NPS Show Pony Home Produced In hand championship
Open to registered Show Ponies not to exceed 148cm at maturity, which are either stabled at home or in a
                           st
DIY yard and which since 1 January in the current year have not been shown by a producer or stabled in a
producer’s yard other than on a DIY basis or at stud. Ponies shown in these classes must be produced and
shown by the owner/spouse, or his/her immediate family, who does not derive income from working with
ponies or horses. Please enter this class in the spirit it is intended. Competitors who contravene the
above will be disqualified.

NPS Roseberry Stud Show Hunter Pony In hand Championship
Classes may be amalgamated. Ponies eligible for the Championship at the show are the first and second
prize winners from all the In Hand Show Hunter Pony classes for registered ponies not to exceed 153cm at
maturity. The Champion and Reserve Champion go forward to the final at the NPS Summer Championship
Show.

Dargavel
Open to pure bred registered M&M stallions, mares and geldings four, five or six years old
NPS/Rosettes Direct Home Produced Ridden Championship – wear white arm bands.

Junior Ridden
Mares and geldings four years old and over, registered in the main body of their respective Breed Society

NPS Simpson Refractories Novice FR
Open to registered Dartmoor, Exmoor, Shetland, New Forest, Welsh Section A or B, mares and geldings
