What’s Next……………
Dear Parents and Students,
patterning: AB/ABC/AABB
Welcome to kindergarten! We have had a marvelous beginning sounds
first week of school learning our daily routine and
making new friends! Each Friday we will be sending nursery rhymes
home a newsletter like this one that will inform you of
what has been happening in our class and give notice of
upcoming events.
Bathroom issues are a common problem during the
first few weeks of kindergarten. Students have access Weekly Sight Word List:
to a bathroom right in our classroom that they can use
the is
as needed. Our policy is that students may excuse and it
themselves to go to the bathroom any time instructions to was
are not being given. Should accidents occur the clinic in are
has a very limited supply of clothing your child may
borrow. It would be a good idea, particularly if your
child is prone to accidents, to pack some extra clothes
in his or her book bag.
Money is another issue that needs to be discussed
early each year. Please place all money you send to
school in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and
the purpose for which the money is to be used.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year. __________

Description of WORD document:
The Word product I created is a classroom newsletter. Last year, as a kindergarten
parapro, I wrote the weekly newsletter for our class. It was functional and informative
but lacked visual appeal. I often wondered also if, because it was just a straight narrative,
parents were bogged down with so much to read that they would only skim over it or
worse, not read it all. I believe this new design for our newsletter, which incorporates the
use of separate text boxes, breaks up the information I have to give in a much neater,
reader-friendly way. I had never used text boxes before so I had to experiment with the
number and size of boxes and with their placement on the page. I decided upon having a
main, larger box for my narration part with three smaller boxes to the right of the main
box for parents to have a quick reference to such things as assignments like a sight word
study list and dates of upcoming events.
Another improvement this newsletter has to my previous design was the insertion of
clip art. It was fun looking for just the right picture to use, yet it was challenging to get
each picture sized and placed where I wanted it. I changed the color of my heading and
e-mail addresses box. That change, with the color added with the clip art pictures greatly
improved the aesthetic quality of my newsletter. Unfortunately, we do not have color
copying available in my school, but nonetheless, I believe that variances in shade will
make my letter look better. The change in font in my heading and narrative section to
Comic Sans seems to give a more kid-friendly, relaxed feel which is an added plus to a
kindergarten newsletter. I am proud of my accomplishment using Word more creatively.
