							                     GENERAL MEDICAL SERVICES
Companies are committed to the welfare of the staff deployed to remote locations. This commitment has created
an overwhelming need for local health information, specialised medical equipment and on-site medical facilities.
AEA is the recognised leader in the provision of remote-site medical services throughout Asia. AEA’s GMS
services range from site surveys, the provision of medicines, First Aid training and general medical consultancy
to the set-up and management of on-site medical facilities. On-site facilities include everything from a
paramedic First Aid station to a fully equipped, staffed and managed field hospital.

GMS field services are often integrated with AEA member assistance services to provide a seamless medical
support programme capable of responding promptly to all medical conditions; a capability vital to remote site
operations. AEA currently provides General Medical Services to a large and varied list of clients including
major companies like BHP, Rio Tinto, Texaco, WMC Resources, Lihir; Schlumberger Group; Freeport; Shell
and Chevron.

AEA International’s General Medical Services include:

SITE SURVEYS
Site surveys are conducted by AEA Coordinator Doctors who are experienced in the provision of medical
services in remote and developing areas, as well as in medical evacuation. The Site Survey Report is a detailed
observation of health and safety factors which will affect personnel and operations at the project site, complete
with recommendations and advice on the type of medical services most suited to a project. Specialised surveys
include:

i Remote Location Surveys
ii Rig Surveys
iii Malaria Surveys
iv Water Testing Surveys

The Site Survey examines the geographical, environmental, transport, telecommunications and medical aspects
of the site and the general region. A full evaluation will be provided of the capabilities and standards of the local
off-site medical infrastructure. From this analysis, AEA is able to provide advice on special regional health
problems, pre-deployment issues, and vaccinations.
The Site Survey also serves as the basis for medical recommendations such as emergency medical procedures
and on-site preventive actions which can reduce the likelihood of the most common preventable accidents and
illnesses.

MEDICAL STAFFING
Immediate First Aid for ill or injured project personnel is of key importance, particularly on remote-site projects.
AEA is able to supply doctors, paramedics and nurses for projects throughout Asia. AEA medical personnel are
interviewed and selected by senior AEA Doctors. They must be skilled in both routine and emergency medicine
and undergo continual in-house training to increase and refresh their skills. Both local and expatriate medical
professionals are provided.

contract the entire responsibility for medical care to AEA. Management of client facilities is provided by a team
of AEA professionals with expertise in medical, logistical and administrative management.

FIRST AID TRAINING
AEA’s First Aid Training Unit provides a range of courses covering the needs of expatriate staff, their families
and their local-country counterparts. These courses are run in a number of languages. Although formats follow
the guidelines of the Australian and American Red Cross, the courses are specifically adapted to the client
company and the location, covering topics such as emergency patient transport if staff are in remote locations.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES
AEA equips medical facilities with the most suitable and up-to-date medical supplies, with particular emphasis
on emergency and first-response medical equipment. This includes:

i Emergency Transport Equipment
