					       INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING FY 2010 TRAINING NEEDS FORM

Please carefully follow these instructions:



Column A (Name): Type in Last Name first, followed by First Name. Capitalize the
                 first letter of the first and last name only. Be consistent.
                 Do not use nicknames.

                       Type in “Vacant” if submitting training for a position that is currently
                       unfilled.


Column B (Area): Use ONLY one of the following codes:

               MA             (for Missoula Area employees)
               BA             (for Bozeman Area employees)
               MCA            (for Miles City Area employees)
               GFA            (for Great Falls Area employees)
               SO-SC          (for State Office-State Conservationist Office employees)
               SO-OP          (for State Office-Operations employees)
               SO-P           (for State Office-Programs employees)
               SO-A           (for State Office-Administration employees)
               SO-E           (for State Office-Engineering employees)
               SO-Tech        (for State Office-Resource Conservation employees)
               SO-SS          (for State Office Soils + Soil Survey Office + Snow Survey
                                employees)


Column C (Location): Type in NAME OF TOWN (be consistent) followed by one of
                     the following codes: (Example, Miles City FO, Missoula AO, etc.)

               AO             (for Area Office)
               FO             (for Field Office)
               SSO            (for Soil Survey Office)
               SO             (for State Office)
               RC&D           (for RC&D Office)


Column D (Title): Use ONLY one of the following codes:

               ASTC (FO)      (for Assistant State Conservationist (FO))
               DC             (for District Conservationist)
               TC             (for Tribal Conservationist)
               SC             (for Soil Conservationist)

If an official title is NOT on the list, please use consistent abbreviations. Please do NOT use
“unofficial titles” such as Soil Data Quality Specialist, Plant Materials Specialist, GIS Specialist,
etc.)


Column E (Grade): Input grade level of employee. (i.e.; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13,
14, 15.)


Column F (Approval): LEAVE BLANK (for Training Committee to determine
                     “yes” or “no”).


Column G (Course): Input training course title.

                        --For NEDC formal training, see website:
                          http://www.nedc.nrcs.usda.gov/catalog/listing.html.
                          Use the official title of the course ONLY.

                        --For non-NEDC, please be consistent (enter the exact same name of the
                          training course for every employee who you are submitting to attend
                          that class)


Column H (Training Source): Input training source title.

                        --For NEDC formal training, use: NEDC.

                        --For non-NEDC, please be consistent.

                          Example: SO - for courses taught by SO
                                   AO - for courses taught by AO
                                   Private – for private training providers
                                   Unknown – if source is unknown


Column I (Course Priority): Use this column to prioritize the total number of
                            employees signed-up for the course in order of whom
                            should attend first, second, third, etc. (enter 1, 2, 3, etc.)


Column J (Employee Priority):       Use this column to prioritize the total number of
                                    courses the employee is signed-up for by which
                                    course is most important for that employee to attend
                                    (enter 1, 2, 3, etc.)


Column K (Category): Use one of the following codes to best describe the need for the
                     employee to attend as follows:

                              1.   Needed to be proficient in current position
                              2.   Core Curriculum
                              3.   Required for licensing/certification/safety
                              4.   Professional Development
                              5.   Other
