Call for Proposals: Training Module Development 2K – Career and Employment Counselling AAISA is seeking an experienced curriculum development professional(s) to produce a training module that will be targeted to staff of settlement agencies throughout Alberta. Background Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) is an umbrella organization comprised of 20 immigrant and refugee settlement agencies from urban and rural communities. AAISA is committed to facilitating the recognition of settlement and integration work as a profession. To achieve this, AAISA manages a comprehensive training and accreditation program for service delivery staff of settlement agencies in Alberta. Module Objective To enable settlement practitioners to facilitate the entry of immigrants and refugees into the Canadian workforce, to assist the client to develop and implement a vocational/career plan and to advocate for individual hiring with employers. Module Structure Modules are developed according to AAISA’s Occupational Competencies Framework, representing best practices and describing a continuum of functions and activities within the settlement sector. AAISA modules include guiding materials for 15 hours of in-class time that is delivered over two consecutive days. They are designed to be highly interactive, incorporate participant experience, and provide a balance of theoretical knowledge and skill development. The module should have a life span of 5 to 7 years. Other AAISA modules can be provided to selected developer(s) as a guiding resource. Development Timeframe The final version of the module is to be completed by March 1, 2010. Responsibilities of Module Developer(s): • Carry out literature review and exploration of current best practice to identify focus of module and background resources, and aligning module with AAISA Settlement Practitioner Training Clusters for Modules Design. • Distribute module outline to AAISA Training Committee for feedback and discussion. • Submit module draft to AAISA Training Committee for feedback and make revisions as required. • Incorporate revisions provided by Training Committee, as compiled from feedback received from module participants and facilitator, after module delivery. • Submit final draft of module (electronically) to AAISA office. Module Components: • A brief description of the module and intended outcomes • Key tasks and activities, including assessment of learnings to be covered in 15-hour class-time • Evaluated learning tasks that can be completed by participants within class time. • A case study and evaluation criteria that can be used for PLAR for Accreditation purposes (more information will be provided) • Notes to facilitators • • List of resources and references Pre-reading materials to be provided to module participants Deadline for submission proposal: August 7th, 2009 or until a suitable candidate is found. Individual or collaborative proposals will be considered.
