Through sustainability education, you can learn how to meet the triple bottom line. The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education has an unique certificate program with courses that examine the way social, environmental, and economic concerns are integrated into values and strategy, thereby establishing better practices and products, creating wealth, and improving well-being for current and future generations.
Sustainability Overview
The world is facing unprecedented sustainability challenges. At the global level, half the world is living on less than $2 a day, and 20% of the global population is consuming 86% of the world’s goods. In Canada, food banks are struggling to meet the needs of urban poor; climate change and our energy needs are front page news; and clashes over resource use are common. To address these concerns, governments, businesses, non-profits, and others are now integrating environmental, social, and economic perspectives into their decisionmaking and actions. The Certificate in Sustainability has been developed by Ryerson University’s G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education to meet the needs of our environment and communities. theoretical frameworks for understanding how society addresses sustainability issues, and the second required course uses these frameworks to examine the issues society faces today. The third required course is a unique capstone course where learners have the opportunity to integrate competencies and knowledge acquired throughout the curriculum. Through three elective courses in specialized streams of Natural Environment, Urban Environment, and Socioeconomics of Sustainability, learners will be equipped with specific knowledge pertinent to their personal goals or professional interests.
