                    as	the	new	dean	of	the	School	of	Education	and	Allied	
                    Professions.	Former	dean	Tom	Lasley,	who	remains	with	
                    us	as	professor	of	teacher	education	and	the	executive	
                    director	of	EDvention,	was	a	wonderful	leader.	I	invite

                                                       Variation	affects	function.	That’s	the	concept	Phil

                                                       Anatomical	variations	in	our	own	bodies	help	
                                                  explain	some	common	problems	such	as	back	pain,	
                                                  said	Anloague.	“It’s	like	the	alignment	in	your	car.	If	
                                                  something	is	asymetrical,	it	wears	out.”
                                                       Even	with	minimal	variation,	humans	can	experi-
                                          a       ence	back	pain	because	our	anatomies	haven’t	quite	
                                                  caught	up	with	our	bipedalism.	
                                                       “A	lot	of	activities	we	do,	such	as	driving	our	cars	or	
                                                  sitting	at	our	computers,	put	us	in	a	slumped	position,”	
                                                  he	said.	“It	keeps	physical	therapists	in	business.”
