and we would like to welcome all of our partners,
our speakers, the companies and the lecturers and
students to our campus at the University of Surrey.
Given our Hospitality and Tourism Division’s
reputation and its ranking - the number one in
Europe and number five worldwide – we wanted
to enhance our offer to our students and underline
our position by supporting this careers event,
planned and organised jointly by The Tourism
Society, the University’s Careers Service and the
Surrey Tourism and Events Society (STES).
We hope that this event will be the start of an
annual THE Careers Day. By providing a great
opportunity for the industry and students to get
together and establish fruitful contacts, we hope
to support the establishment of a greater network

THE Careers Fair, 2pm - 4pm
The 1st Career Fair will be attended by 14 employers and organisations from various sectors of tourism,
hospitality, and events industries. Profiles of employers are spanning from local businesses to global
corporations, offering job opportunities such as traineeship programmes and direct hires. Several career
training and recruitment agencies will also provide information and advices for career development.
Marketing Director, Perfect Weddings Abroad
Danny founded Perfect Weddings and Honeymoons in 2005 together with his
business partner Helen Doyle. Being the UK’s first wedding abroad tour operator,
Danny is a multi award winner and has won recognition in THE industry.
Operations Director, Online Travel Training / New Frontiers
Bruce Martin is an Operations Director of a leading travel and hospitality
recruitment company and UK’s largest provider of e-learning and GDS training for
the travel & tourism industry. Bruce also offers a wide range of advice and help
including career workshops & CV makeovers.
Recruitment Director, Projects Abroad
Ian Birbeck was one of Projects Abroad’s first twenty volunteers joining a teaching
programme in Moldova back in 1992. Nowadays, as Recruitment Director, Ian
Birbeck coordinates the programme of visits, talks and publicity about Projects
Abroad around the world.

Sally is very experienced in developing qualifications that engage learners at school
or in work to achieve their full potential. Sally works for GoSkills which is the

Surrey Tourism and Events Society (STES)
Founded by enthusiastic master and undergraduate tourism and events
students in December 2008, it enjoys strong support from the academic
Tourism Research Group of the University of Surrey. In its first year of
existence, more than 200 members have joined and participated in events
such as a cultural trip to Spain and an academic talk about Film Tourism.
STES provides students interested in the subjects of Tourism and Events with an
interactive forum for networking and exchanging relevant knowledge, experiences
and ideas. By establishing close links to the industry, academics and Surrey alumni,
STES seeks to offer its members the chance to establish fruitful relationships with
