When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have
not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with
Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
But the CHILDREN of the KINGDOM shall be CAST OUT into outer darkness: there shall be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.
These are some of the most tragic words in scripture: “the children of the kingdom shall be cast
into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
The gospels record the unbelief in Israel in contrast to the faith of Gentiles who came to Christ.
The Centurion believed (Matt.8:5), and the Syrophenician woman believed (Mark 7:26), yet
many in Israel did not believe.
“The children of the kingdom” were the children of Israel who first heard the gospel. Many of
them would be cast out because of unbelief. Many GENTILES would respond to the gospel and
enter the kingdom. Many Gentiles would come and sit with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but the
children of the kingdom would be cast out. This reinforces the truth that physical descent from
Abraham did not qualify for entrance into the kingdom. Entrance into the kingdom requires
Those who were cast out were those who were invited to the wedding, but
refused. They did not have the proper wedding garments and were cast out.
And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
The KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the WEDDING: and they would not
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared
my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those
murderers, and burned up their city.
Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not
Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found,
both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
Many in Israel were called to the wedding, but few were chosen.
And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into
outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen!
